Leadership & Life Skills

UTi provides structured group and individual activities that instill the fundamental virtues of leadership, including communication, critical thinking, and self-control. Life skills focuses on daily living activities, including health & wellness, career preparation, and money management.

Population(s) Served

The Mentoring Program is a holistic mentoring program that addresses the social, emotional and cultural needs of children ages 8-20. Mentors are trained and certified to become mentors, advocates, and role models for the youth within their communities. Through one-on-one and group mentoring efforts, our members forge relationships that positively impact our greatest resource: our youth. The program focuses on building essential skills needed to become productive, contributing citizens.

Workshops for youth include topics such as:

Mentoring techniques are developed using evidence-supported goals and utilize the following mentoring relationship models:

The College, Careers, and Community Service Program provides information and preparation for college enrollment, academic success, and other post-secondary career opportunities. We partner with local organizations and corporations, to provide you with training and apprenticeship opportunities.

Our after-school chess program provides instruction and practice to girls primarily ages 10-18. The chess program builds on the ‘Time - Attention - Patience - Strategy’ (TAPS) program model - designed by Perfect Team Play. During instruction and practice sessions, participants learn basic, intermediate, and advanced rules and strategies that increase their knowledge in the game of chess. Ultimately, the Chess Program is intended to help students improve their math, and critical thinking skills.

Our physical fitness training programs are designed to deliver a challenging workout regimen that is organized, educational, progressive, and customized for entire sport teams and individuals. Training sessions are typically conducted at the organization’s partnering facilities and focus primarily on linear speed and multi-directional skill development. Training programs are built to be sport relevant with emphasis on hand-eye coordination, medicine ball strengthening, bodyweight resisted power development, energy system development, and speed ratios that apply directly to specific sports demands. Our Training programs are open to the public and participants will be selected regardless of their gender, religion, race, ethnicity, and age.

Our organization uses sports and extracurricular activities as a means to recruit, and create meaningful relationships with program participants.

Our organization has the capacity to work at the grassroots level, to build partnerships with other small nonprofit organizations, schools, and other institutions that serve youth.

So far, our organization has built a solid foundation in the community. We have built partnerships with schools, private businesses, and families in the community who provide support for our initiatives.
