What we aim to solve

SOURCE: Self-reported by organization

Studies show that youth are becoming increasingly less active, spending less time outdoors, engaging in more risky behavior, and the overall health of youth is declining. Mountain biking is a positive outdoor experience that fosters healthy habits in youth, develops self confidence, cultivates leadership and strengthens community. And it's fun! When kids are asked why they participate in sports, the #1 answer is because it's fun. If this is the case, then why are 70% of kids dropping out of organized sports by the age of 13? When kids were asked what makes sports fun, they say: #1 Being able to try their best #2 When a coach treats them with respect #3 Getting playing time We have developed an inclusive program where ALL students get to participate regardless of ability, gender, or financial means and nobody is benched. Furthermore, our comprehensive coaching program works with coaches to provide a fun, safe, and empowering environment to help kids grow into healthy adults.

What are the organization's current programs, how do they measure success, and who do the programs serve?

Spring League Program

The Spring League is a holistic youth empowerment program through cross-country mountain biking for students grades 6 through 12.

The program is delivered through educated and highly competent volunteer coaches. The Washington Student Cycling League has a coaching development program to ensure that all coaches are given the tools that they need to be successful.

Teams are either school-based or regionally-based. Most teams meet 1-3 times per week. There is an optional 4-race series in the spring.
