Mission

Red Leash Rescue (RLR) is a not for profit rescue corporation with 501(c)3 status. We work with Animal Controls across Fairfield County and surrounding communities to build a strong Foster Team Network that provides safe refuge, love and care to discarded Adult/Senior dogs, until successfully re-homed. Our dogs will be up to date on vaccines, neutered, and microchipped.
Our long term goal is to complement our foster network with a RLR Foster Home for Adult/Senior dogs, enabling more dogs to be removed from the shelter environment, and if unable to get adoted, living the rest of their lives in a home setting cherished and cared for

Fostering and Rehoming

Red Leash Rescue is an all volunteer 501c 3 local dog rescue serving the adult, senior and hospice dogs of Fairfield County CT. We started working in the fall of 2014 and became an established 501(c)3 in March of 2015. Over 400 local dogs have come into our program from our shelters, owner surrenders and abandonment by choice or by owner death. We accept dogs that are 4YO+ with good temperments.
Our hospice program is for terminally ill dogs. Our hospice dogs are cared for until they no longer have a quality of life, at which time they leave the world surrounded by people who know and love them.

Charting impact

Four powerful questions that require reflection about what really matters - results.

Red Leash Rescue aims to provide homes for dogs that would be overlooked in shelters, the seniors and those with medical conditions that may be minor or not so minor. We want to give every adult/senior dog their best chance at a forever home. Our hospice program makes sure that dogs do not spend their last laps in the shelter- instead they get loved and spoiled until they the bad days outweigh the good and then they are able to leave the world surrounded by people who love them.

We are a foster based program with a long term goal to create a sanctuary in Fairfield County that provides a place for our hospice dogs, and harder to adopt out dogs, to call home for as long as they need. This center also would serve the community by providing education programs, low cost vaccine programs, dog food insecurity relief, a low cost euthanasia program and a place for volunteering, community service and internships.

We have worked hard to establish great relationships with our local shelters, vets and the community at large with a very dedicated group if volunteers and supporters. We have been working on our Sanctuary business plan and once complete we will start our capital fundraising campaign.

We know what our local community needs and are designing a program to meet them.

We have had over 400 dogs come through Red Leash Rescue. We were able to raise funds to build the Red Leash Rescue dog house, a shed that consolidates inventory, such as food, medicine. It also provides the dogs a place to be while they wait to transition into their fosters or their new home. At the dog house, the dogs can relax in their personal space, get clean in the tub, or simply hang out while in transition!
