Mission

Deaf Plus Adult Community (DPAC) provides an adult day program for those who have developmental delays and are deaf or deaf/blind and may have behavior challenges. DPAC focuses on personal growth for each individual through their individual service plan. A communication rich environment is critical to serving this population. All staff are fluent in American Sign Language (ASL) and other forms of visual communication as well as tactile sign language. Our environment supports learning and practicing individual and social skills, provides choices, encourages independence, enhances relationships with family and friends and engages participants in the larger community.

Charting impact

Four powerful questions that require reflection about what really matters - results.

DPAC wants adults who are deaf and deaf/blind and have developmental delays to be part of the community - integrated into daily life, able to hold jobs, have satisfying lives. They should feel love, hope and respect in an integrated society.

The DPAC Adult Day Program has provided a secure place for our consumers to experience love, hope and respect. They have the opportunity to expand their abilities to communicate and have new experiences in the San Francisco Bay Area.

The next goal is to help some of them become ready to work and find competitive employment at their skill level. DPAC will provide job development and job coaching for as long as they need it.

Future plans are to develop living situations for our consumers that provide the same love, hope and respect as our day program provides. That may mean opening group homes with accessible communication. It could also mean developing an apartment complex with supported living for those able to live on their own.

DPAC hires highly skilled people with a heart for working with this population. Most of the staff are deaf themselves and college graduates. Our Board of Directors is energetic about the program and raising the money needed to fulfill our goals.

The first goal of 30 full time consumers has been met.

Currently the first 4 consumers are searching for jobs.

DPAC holds ASL classes for group homes twice a year.
