VISION: The American Pediatric Surgical Nurses Association, Inc. (APSNA) will be the leading authority for the nursing care of pediatric surgical patients. MISSION: We are the voice that shapes pediatric surgical nursing through advocacy, collaboration, mentorship and leadership. Based on a foundation of research, education and innovation, we will transform care delivery for pediatric surgical patients.

Notes from the nonprofit

The American Pediatric Surgical Nurses Association, Inc. (APSNA) is a non-profit
501c3 founded in 1992. Our membership of 600 consists of Registered Nurses, Nurse
Practitioners, Clinical Nurse Specialists, Physician Assistants and other Allied Health
Professionals. Our members hold positions at the bedside, in the operating room, inpatient
and outpatient settings, and administration specializing in trauma, oncology,
colorectal management, burn care and fetal treatment. We are the only organization
devoted exclusively to the care of the pediatric surgical patient and deliver this care in the
context of pre-operative, perioperative and post-operative settings. We care for children in
urban and rural communities. The pediatric surgical patients we care for range in age from
newborns to teens, and in some cases young adults. Our members work in or are affiliated
with Pediatric Surgical practices and are valued members of the surgical team, working
closely with Pediatric Surgeons.

31st Annual Scientific Conference May, 2022

The 31st Annual Scientific Conference is the first virtual program offered by APSNA. The meeting will showcase the growth and future state of pediatric surgical nursing and is intended for a dynamic, growing body of members representing various nursing roles including nursing working at the bedside, operating room, outpatient clinics, and those practicing in advanced practice roles, management, and education.

Attendees will benefit from a wide range of topics and faculty presenting on original evidence-based, research findings as well as on innovative ideas for successful approaches to clinical application of pediatric surgical nursing.

3. Identify ways of advanced problem solving among different pediatric surgical subspecialties, multidisciplinary groups and industry that foster professional relationships, and discern innovative methods to deliver exceptional ethical patient care.

4. Increase member engagement and participation within the organization

1. Market current NP competencies and develop a task force to create RN specific competencies
2. Promote 1-2 hour continuing education content
3. Increase engagement by collaborations with other organizations
