What we aim to solve

SOURCE: Self-reported by organization

Suicide takes loved ones by surprise. Facebook and Google algorithms have the ability to predict suicidal behaviors, and therefor the ability to prevent suicide, but have no evidence-based approach to successfully intervene. Suicide Sucks solves that need by allowing people to share their stories of grief, pain, heartache in a format that can be delivered to someone in crisis, at the moment they need it. We provide opportunities for people who'd like to see more done to prevent suicide to be involved by donating to promote a specific video that touches them. We build a report to deliver to our donors so they can know how many lives they impact with their donation. Suicide is 100% preventable if the people that care can be enabled to step up and move mountains. Suicide Sucks is moving those mountains.

Our programs

What are the organization's current programs, how do they measure success, and who do the programs serve?

Unconditional Love - Social Media Campaign

Mental Illness gets very lonely. The Surgeon General, Dr. Vivek, has declared loneliness to be an epidemic. Loneliness can only be treated with love and connection. This campaign is designed to connect loving, caring, trained individuals with those who are in need of early intervention, and unconditional love.

This service is being provided via scheduled phone calls with trained professionals, who listen without judgement, support without being overbearing, and who help people feel emotionally connected to another human being.

There are many, many people who are struggling with this right now. And yet, we have many who are willing to give their time and passion to loving others, and helping them grow.

We will connect these individuals, and we need your help funding the technology and media elements that will make this connection as seamless as possible.

We hope to raise $100,000 before the end of 2023, to do our part to create caring, loving connections.

Goals & Strategy

Charting impact

Four powerful questions that require reflection about what really matters - results.

1. Reverse the rates of suicide by 20% by 2020.
2. Enable those who care to reach those in need.
3. Build machine learning tools to learn suicidal behaviors and actively intervene where suicide is predicted to occur.
4. Carefully study and optimize intervention tactics online and on various social media platforms to aggressively learn effective methods.
5. Connect victims with professional help and track progress of interventions until full rehabilitation occurs.

We're going to attack this problem by getting the message to the right person at the right time by:

1. Collecting stories of strength and courage by modern day heroes fighting to survive.
2. Enabling those stories to be shared, and to be visible when technology identifies a suicidal individual.
3. Promote stories as ads so they get seen when they need to be seen.
4. Build technology that can identify suicidal behaviors that effectively intervene with a story of relevance and support automatically.

Aaron is a Pinterest SMB marketing manager with an active pulse on new innovations, algorithm updates from Google, Facebook and Pinterest and has connections to network with industry leaders to strategize the most innovative and customized suicide detection, intervention, and prevention methods available. Aaron is obtaining a Master's of Communication and Leadership from Gonzaga University where he is focusing is studies and research on communication strategies that can be deployed in the fight against suicide.

We've got hundreds of thousands of views on our current videos and stories, and have made a strategic decision to open our site to hosting content from the public to share their stories of strength and courage with others. With this strategy we hope to create a community of open, vulnerable sharing that strengthens and uplifts others in need.
