Programs and results
What we aim to solve
To provide for the homeless community in the form of supplies, food, clothing, etc., as well as addressing spiritual, emotional, and physical needs. To also create relationships in order to build a foundation that allows us to help them move forward in a way that will eventually provide a pathway up and off the streets and to continue that relationship even after they are stable.

Outreach
"We’re in the loving business” - Steven Young, Founder
When Steven founded Home Street Home, he did so with one distinct purpose…to go beyond merely attempting to meet the basic needs of our homeless brothers and sisters. We were going to make every effort to build relationships that would last a life time, and hopefully help rebuild lives in the process! He knew the key ingredient to our success in doing so would be love. That’s why we operate under the belief that handshakes and hugs are just as important as tents and sleeping bags; at the same time, realizing the importance of accepting each individual for who they are and where they are in their journey.
We are a "boots on the ground” operation. Our offices are our vehicles, and we can be found in the field day and night. HSH provides tents, sleeping bags, food, clothing, water, hygiene products, footwear, camp stoves, heaters, propane, and other necessities our friends so desperately need. We also help fill prescriptions, help with medical situations when needed and rehab when desired, provide transportation, buy bus tickets and passes, provide glasses, help with obtaining identification, assist with housing and utility costs once they leave the streets while they work to get on their feet, and more.
We also work to provide the things that don’t carry a price tag. We possess a strong desire to minister to their non-physical needs by providing spiritual and emotional support as well. Prayer is a constant in what we do, and within our team we have a recovering addict, ordained ministers, and others who bring unique skill sets and experiences to our outreach. We also help in bridging the gap between our homeless friends and their families whenever possible, having reunited several.
Our goal is to never say "we don’t do that”, and with God's help and your support, we can achieve that goal!
Community Engagement
We are very dedicated to helping dispel the myths that exist concerning homelessness and believe the only way to do so is through education and involvement. Through speaking engagements and volunteer opportunities we expose society to the real, factual and mostly ignored side of the true homeless condition and those who are affected by it.

What are the organization's key strategies for making this happen?
OUR PURPOSE...
To minister to the spiritual, emotional and physical needs of those who are trapped in the grip of homelessness and other vulnerable living conditions.
OUR MISSION...
• to identify, marshal, and leverage every resource available to meet their basic needs.
• to play a pivotal role in eliminating the scourge of homelessness in as many lives as possible.
• to feed mind, body and soul in an effort to help them achieve their desire to rise above their present situation.
• to inspire others to reassess their perceptions and beliefs concerning the homeless condition and those affected by it.
• to always be guided by a God-centered R.E.A.L. approach and call to action –RESPECT, ENCOURAGEMENT, ACCEPTANCE, LOVE, and to do so without qualifications, stipulations and/or expectations- solely because it is the right thing to do.
And this year we are opening our first program transitional house, A Place Called Home, that will allow us to help propel our friends to a better, self-sustainable life.
What are the organization's capabilities for doing this?
Within our HSH family, you will find an eclectic mix of individuals with very diverse backgrounds. Yes, we wear many hats - however, we all have one thing in common - our love for the homeless and the passion to serve God by serving them. Each brings a unique skill set to our mission, and it is a mission all are dedicated to. And...our Founder and Executive Director spent nearly five years homeless...giving him insight and perspective that only a "lived it" experience can give.
By meeting their needs and establishing rapport , we can then build a sustainable relationship that will enable us to determine needs and produce a targeted, individualized action plan that will help them achieve personal sustainability.
What have they accomplished so far and what's next?
Since our inception we have helped 100's get off the streets for good. Several more have been given assistance in finding and obtaining jobs. Others have been convinced to enter rehab, seek counseling and even furthered their education. We have also reunited over 200 families...something we are most proud of. And finally...we have provided more life sustaining supplies to more individuals in the field than any other organization in Nashville. And this year we are opening our first program transitional house, A Place Called Home, that will allow us to help propel our friends to a better, self-sustainable life.

- We engage everyone, from the board to staff levels of the organization, in race equity work and ensure that individuals understand their roles in creating culture such that one’s race identity has no influence on how they fare within the organization.
