What we aim to solve
Our programs
What are the organization's current programs, how do they measure success, and who do the programs serve?
Save Our Streams (SOS): Founded in 1969, SOS is the League's grassroots watershed conservation program teaching citizens to be stewards of our nation's precious water and wetlands resources. The Sustainability Education Program was formed to help bring human population growth, economic development and natural resource consumption into balance with the limits of nature for the benefit of current and future generations. SEP researches sustainability issues, develops educational materials to help League members and the public address local and regional sustainability concerns, and build a grassroots constituency.Energy Efficiency: To promote the use of efficient energy technologies and renewable energy initiatives to help reduce the environmental burden associated with energy production and consumption. Some examples of League initiatives include work to clean up the nation's oldest coal-fired power plants, increase awareness of global climate change and promotion of clean, renewable energy resources such as wind.Outdoor Ethics: Today, as growing numbers of recreationists place increasing demands on America's natural resources, the need to encourage a strong outdoor ethic is more important than ever. Conflicts among individuals and groups vying for the same resources will increase unless an understanding of the common need for abundant and healthy natural resources is forged. The League's Outdoor Ethics Program works as a leader in outdoor ethics research and as an information source for established and emerging outdoor ethics projects across the country.IWLA presents outdoor ethical dilemmas (previously shown on ESPN2 Outdoors) through a series of educational videos.Conservation: To advance the League's conservation policy agenda, established by its members, through direct and grassroots lobbying activities; to keep members informed about federal legislative and regulatory issues affecting natural resources and the environment; to educate the public about important national conservation issues; and to lend assistance to members and chapters on their conservation activities as requested.
