What we aim to solve

SOURCE: Self-reported by organization

Treasure Island, in San Francisco Bay, has a rich history that informs and illuminates issues of today and concerns of tomorrow. As the island and its companion Yerba Buena Island are redeveloped into San Francisco's newest and most sustainable neighborhood and a regional and tourist destination, this heritage and its significance must be preserved and communicated to the community's eventual 24,000 residents and to visitors from the area and around the world.

Charting impact

Four powerful questions that require reflection about what really matters - results.

Design, fund and construct the new Treasure Island Museum by 2023. The new museum will serve as a visitor orientation for the island as well as a repository and communicator of its history. The new Treasure Island Museum will "Preserve. Inform. Inspire!" To accomplish this, the Museum is at the beginning of a multi-year capital and general campaign with a goal of $8 million.

Build board and organizational capacity. Engage community leaders and supporters.

The dedicated Board of Directors has provided seed funding for operational capacity of over $300,000. We have engaged expert assistance including Museum Management Consultants, fundraising capacity building from BuildingBlox Consulting, campaign counsel MarchPartners and the international museum design firm Gallagher & Associates.

We have raised over $300,000 as of October 2018. The Treasure Island Development Authority, City of San Francisco supports the museum with rent-free exhibition and office space, and has committed 3,500 to 4,000 square feet of rent-free space in Building One for the new museum. In 2018 we added two new board members.
