Mission

The Watercolor Society of Alabama was founded in 1939 by a group of artists. Currently, WSA has a nationwide membership of approximately 500. An artist must be at least 18 years of age and must reside in the United States. It was organized for the purpose of advancing the art of watermedia painting in order to contribute to the enrichment of the cultural environment of the citizens of Alabama. One national exhibition and one Members exhibition are held annually at various sites around the State of Alabama. The jurors are nationally known practicing artists. A workshop is usually held by the juror while he or she is in the locality of the national exhibition to select the award winners. The 60th National Exhibition will be held at Heritage Hall Museum in Talladega, Alabama, and Jean Grastorf, AWS, NWS will serve as juror of selection and awards. She will conduct a four day workshop in Birmingham from March 26-March 29, 2001.
