Charting impact

Four powerful questions that require reflection about what really matters - results.

Our goal is to present a world class celebration of the arts and entertainment that attracts, engages, and inspires the broad and diverse community it serves.

The Columbia Festival has 34 years experience bringing diverse artists and our diverse community together to share common uplifting experiences. Through our programming and community partnerships we are using our public voice to present films, conversations, lectures, workshops, a growing community Arts Channel, and by providing support through partner participation that stimulates conversation, awareness & education. Further, we utilize funding, where available (and seek funding grants & opportunities) that allow us to help struggling artists and individuals to not only pursue their own work and well being, but to encourage overall participation in endorsing, promoting, and taking positive actions to work towards and to eventually accomplish all these goals.

Though effective new management, an experienced staff and a committed, involved board of trustees we have a wealth of knowledge and skills available to pursue our strategic goals. We are expanding our ability to work with others on a free lance or contract basis to further provide vital skills and talents. We are creating an important communication platform through our website and media capabilities. Further, we care constantly working to develop relationships with organizations and individuals that provide additional talents and the opportunities to network and constantly reach beyond and push limits.

In previous history, 2017 Festival attendance was almost 23,000 in a two-week period. For 2018, we had 43 events happening over 17 days and drew more than 22,000 attendees with similar numbers for 2019. As the Covid Pandemic hit in 2020 we could no longer present an outdoor Festival to this size crowd. While there were some individuals who felt we should simply shut down and wait for the Pandemic to end, new leadership from both the Board and Management perspective saw this as an opportunity for innovation, creativity, and to re-evaluate how we proceed and how we can build for the future. As of this writing, we are still in the midst of a tragic shut down for in person events. However, we took this opportunity, as so many others, to go virtual. We presented over 60 diverse films as part of the Columbia Film Festival with dozens of Filmmaker/Audience Q&A's, creative workshops, presenting films covering both entertainment and vital social and environmental issues. As we moved through 2020 into 2021 we programmed further films that stimulated the imagination and conversation. We created competitions that encouraged songwriters to create works with lyrics that promoted strength and inspiration. We worked with The Horizon Foundation sharing videos on mental health. We are continually working with partners to share voices that will influence and help others and work towards these goals in new ways. We are building a stronger foundation and planning for when we can go LIVE again and have a solid digital/virtual platform that will endure.
