Promoting women's leadership in international affairs

Washington, DC   |  https://www.wfpg.org/

Mission

The Women’s Foreign Policy Group advances women’s leadership in international affairs and amplifies their voices through substantive global issue discussions and mentoring. Founded 25 years ago, WFPG works tirelessly to expand the foreign policy dialogue across political divides and generations, and to support women at every stage of their careers. Through mentoring and career development programs, we connect aspiring leaders with role models, providing young women with the tools they need for career advancement and to contribute to a stronger, more peaceful, and equitable society. WFPG’s frequent, in-depth global issues forums feature women thought leaders and news-makers. Our programming takes members beyond the headlines and provides context for key global challenges.

WFPG believes that providing the next generation of women leaders with the tools to succeed is the key to promoting women’s voices in foreign affairs. The organization provides a professional forum for women to connect with one another. Our roundtable discussions enable young women—both those in the work force and those still in school—to interact with leaders and role models in the foreign policy community.

We believe that mentoring is a two-way street and WFPG encourages our members to engage across generational boundaries and benefit from each other's knowledge. WFPG offers a forum where women of all ages can broaden their networks, mentor those new to the field and be mentored by those who have come before them.

Through Mentoring Forums, career programming and our Young Professional Network, the WFPG provides students and young professionals with the opportunity to meet with international affairs professionals to discuss career experiences and to learn first-hand what tools are needed to excel in their fields.

It is critical that we recognize the women who have lead the way and understand how far we still have to go. The WFPG's Guide to Women Leaders highlights women shaping foreign policy around the world and the role that they play as leaders, diplomats, and policymakers. The Guide provides an index of prominent women from across the international community, including heads of state and government, government ministers and diplomats, and leaders of international organizations and corporations. This free publication is available online and is distributed to our members and partners.
