Mission

Voices for Animals’ mission is to improve the lives of animals in Central Virginia through direct care programs, community outreach, and advocacy. Our hands-on programs focus on free-roaming cats and backyard dogs, animals who often fall under the radar of other animal protection groups.

Our Feral Cat Spay/Neuter Project promotes trap-neuter-return as a humane, effective method of controlling feline overpopulation and provides spay/neuter and vaccinations services for unowned free-roaming cats.

Our Houses of Wood and Straw (HOWS) Project provide weatherproof doghouses, straw bedding, and other items to outdoor dogs with substandard shelter and works with the animals’ owners to improve the care they provide.

Feral Cat Spay/Neuter Project

Voices for Animals' Feral Cat Spay/Neuter Project provides free or low-cost spay/neuter and vaccinations for free-roaming unowned cats in Central Virginia. Our goal is to humanely stabilize and reduce cat populations, reduce feline intakes at area animal shelters, and enable individual cats to live healthier, safer lives.

Population(s) Served

The Houses of Wood and Straw Project improves the lives of neglected outdoor dogs with weatherproof housing, bedding, better collars, secure water buckets, and education for owners so they're better able to act in the best interests of their animals. We also work to strengthen local animal welfare ordinances to require higher standards of care for dogs who are kept outside.
