THE PURPOSE OF THE CHARLOTTESVILLE/ALBEMARLE TRANSPORTATION COALITION IS TO BRING TOGETHER CITIZEN VOLUNTEERS TO DEVELOP, STUDY AND ACT ON PROPOSALS FOR THE IMPROVEMENT OF TRAFFIC IN THE CHARLOTTESYILLE-AIBEMARLE AREA. OUR PRINCIPAL ACTIVITIES HAVE CENTERED AROUND EDUCATING THE PUBLIC AND LOCAL, STATE AND FEDERAL OFFICIALS REGARDING THE NEGATIVE IMPACTS OF THE CONSTRUCTION OF A 6.2 MILE BYPASS AROUND ROUTE 29 AND THE LOWER COST AND MORE BENEFICIAL EFFECT OF BUILDING A SYSTEM OF PARALLEL ROADS TO ROUTE 29 IN A PLAN CALLED: "PLACES 29" WHICH WAS APPROVED BY THE BOARD OF SUPERVISORS OF ALBEMARLE COUNTY IN FEBRUARY 2011.
