Program 1

VFEL continued to work with the National Institute for School Leadership on strategizing how to provide the NISL - Executive Development Program to K-12 school principals statewide. Vfel collaborated with VASSP and created a middlle school commission and a high school commission better to service va's school building level leaders.VFEL was successful in having all of its current NISL-Virginia certified facilitators re-credentialed for another three years.VFEL has developed a new statewide service to address the State Board of Education's requirement that a school improvement plan be based on a comprehensive needs assessment. VFEL offers two services for school divisions with specific demographics that will address this requirement; the first service is a deep data analysis for individual schools and the second service is the development of a Community of Practice to establish a school improvement plan designed to increase graduation rates of Blacks, Latinos, and economically disadvantaged students.VFEL collaborated with the Virginia Association of Elementary School Principals, Virginia Association of Secondary School Principals, and Virginia Department of Education to conduct a "principal retention, attrition and mobility survey" of Virginia's PK-12 school principals. VFEL worked with the Virginia Association of Secondary School Principals and Virginia Department of Education on the planning of the annual Virginia Middle and High School Principals Conference and Exposition. VFEL has become a supporting organization of this annual statewide conference. Due to the Coronavirus pandemic, the confernce was not held in this fiscal year. Plans are underway to conduct this conference next year, either as an in-person conference or as a virtual conference.
