Mission

The mission of the Steamboat Era Museum is to collect, preserve and interpret artifacts, archival materials, and oral and written histories from the Chesapeake Bay’s Steamboat Era (1813 – 1937). Through exhibits and educational programs, the Museum illustrates and interprets the economic, social, and cultural changes steamboats brought to Virginia and Maryland communities along Chesapeake Bay and its navigable tributaries. The museum’s regional emphasis is the Town of Irvington and Virginia’s Northern Neck and Middle Peninsula.
