What we aim to solve
Our programs
What are the organization's current programs, how do they measure success, and who do the programs serve?
Professional Theatre Productions
Children’s Theatre is a fully producing theatre. Prior to launching each Season, our artists, educators and leadership team carefully consider scripts for artistic merit, public and school audience appeal, curricular ties, variety of ages served, themes explored, diversity of programming, and ties to our mission. Once selected, our artistic team hires directors and actors along with professional set, costume, sound and lighting designers from the region and around the country. All sets and costumes are built on site by CTC craftsmen. Our productions feature professional adult actors and, in one or two shows annually, talented students in a variety of roles.
Innovative Education Experiences
CTC offers comprehensive theatre education programs. Creative Drama classes, an introduction to the performing arts, are available to children age 2 to grade 5. School of Theatre Training (SOTT) is a 20-week program for children in grades 3-12 who have an interest in studying the skills and techniques of acting and musical theatre. Every spring, our education and production departments came together for OnStage: a 5-week intensive program in which SOTT students audition, rehearse, and perform a fully-realized production. Our Summer Camps are a highlight of thousands of Charlotte-area kids’ summers, and our Mini-Camps throughout the school year provide a day of theatre education for kids on school vacation or a teacher work day. Our education residencies provide curriculum-based classes and workshops in Charlotte area schools, and our Community Involvement Program brings free theatre classes to children in underserved communities across Mecklenburg County.
