Mission

Founded in 1993 by Joe & Betty Noah under the Charitable Gift Fund (Fidelity Investments), and incorporated in 1996 with an IRS exemption, the PMF believes that George Preddy, the top Mustang ace of World War II, and his younger brother, Bill, should be remembered. PMF seeks to memorialize them and their comrades-in-arms by developing exhibits in their honor; by applying for George's enshrinement in the National Aviation Hall of Fame; by applying for George's enshrinement in the Commemorative Air Force Combat Airman Hall of Fame; by helping to establish a North Carolina Aviation Hall of Fame and having George enshrined there; by lobbying to have an airport named for the Preddy brothers - military or civilian; by promoting books, video tapes, movies, brochures and other media that may make their names better known. A recent activity has resulted in the production of a one-hour documentary on the 352nd Fighter Group, George's group. The production of a documentary film to be shown of PBS entitled CAROLINA ACE is being funded by the PMF. We are working hard to raise the funds necessary to produce this documentary on George Preddy, the world's top P-51 Mustang ace!

What are the organization's current programs, how do they measure success, and who do the programs serve?

In 1993, the PMF launched its first project: to design, develop and install an exhibit in the terminal building at the Piedmont Triad International Airport serving the Preddy brothers hometown of Greensboro, NC. The exhibit was completed in 1998. It includes an exhibit case (6 feet tall, 10 feet long and 3 feet deep) with portraits of George & Bill, photos of family and friends, and six 1/48th scale models of the aircraft flown by the brothers (a P-40, a P-47, and four P-51s). The case also contains a TV designed to play an interactive CD. This project cost the PMF about $25,000. The exhibit case was unveiled at the Greensboro Historical Museum in May 1998; it was moved to the airport terminal building in December of 1998. A one-fifth scale model of George's famous P-51 Mustang named Cripes A'Mighty 3rd was also completed and placed in the NC Aviation Museum at the Asheboro, NC airport. Another similar model was acquired in 2002 & placed in the NC Museum of History for two years; that model now hangs in Charlotte's Douglas Airport Terminal Building. Other projects include getting the Preddys recognition in the USAF Museum in Dayton, Ohio (a bust of George is located there), the 8th Air Force Heritage Museum in Savannah, GA (a bust is now on display there), the Air Force Academy in Colorado Springs, the American Fighter Aces Museum in Seattle, WA and the American Air Museum in Britain (located at Duxford, England), and the Arizona Wing of the Commemorative Air Force, Planes of Fame Museum in Chino, CA, and other places.

In 2004, George Preddy was inducted into the American Combat Airmen Hall of Fame, Commemorative Air Force, Midland, TX. We are hopeful that he will be inducted into the National Aviation Hall of Fame soon.
