What are the organization's current programs, how do they measure success, and who do the programs serve?

SC Visibility Project

This program provides services, supports, and rights tote bags to new TBI patients at SC's level 1 trauma centers; provides training for law enforcement officers about brain injury and skills needed when assisting brain injured individuals; provides education to recreation departments to further inclusion efforts.

BIASC maintains a toll-free helpline in SC to assure that all persons with brain injuries, their families and professionals are directed to appropriate resources and services when needed. Individualized informational packets are mailed to individuals depending of what there needs are. BIASC maintains an informational website with multiple resource contacts. BIASC also connects with people through facebook, instagram and twitter.

BIASC provides support to eleven brain injury support groups statewide. These support groups are for brain injury survivors and caregivers. BIASC provides financial assistance which allows these groups to participate in social activities. BIASC provides training and technical assistance to support group leaders. Groups are located in Greenville, Columbia, Charleston, Rock Hill, Myrtle Beach, Hartsville, Greenwood, Aiken, Spartanburg, and Chapin.

BIASC provides education through a statewide conference and other trainings for survivors, family members, and providers. The SC Statewide conference, Life with Brain Injury conference, is for brain injury survivors, caregivers and professionals. Scholarships are given to survivors and caregivers who are unable to pay to attend the conference. BIASC provides training to other groups as requested including Vocational Rehab. Counselors, Case Managers, Hospital staff, Rehab. Staff, rotary clubs, school personnel, etc.

BIASC provides injury prevention materials and education about concussion identification and management including protocols for concussion management. We are a member of the SC Concussion Alliance to maintain up to date information about concussion treatment. BIASC is developing a manual for school professionals and parents to follow when a student experiences a concussion. BIASC also collaborates with ThinkFirst SC and provides a yearly seminar for the ThinkFirst Chapters in SC to network and learn about new injury prevention initiatives.

BIASC is the only statewide organization in SC dedicated to providing support to children and adults with brain injury and their caregivers. BIASC advocates for services and support for brain injured individuals and their families. As an active member of multiple tasks forces and committees, BIASC represents the brain injury community.
