Conservation and Information

The Envirothon is just one of the Environmental information programs that are carried out by the HYL RC&D Council. It is a hand's on outdoor competition geared a teaching high school students about natural resources and current environmental issues. Students are tested on their knowledge of aquatics, forestry, soils, wildlife and one current environmental issue that changes from year to year. Hull-York Lakeland Resource Conservation and Development provides a training program to develop the leadership skills of agricultural producers and agribusiness people by empowering them to advance the agricultural industry advances, policies, etc. and to communicate this knowledge to others to improve the quality of rural life. This program has 15-20 graduates annually.

Maintain existing partnership relationships and develop new partnership where appropriate. Promote Hull-York Lakeland, Southeast and National RC&D Councils. - Maintain internet web page. - Support and participate in activities of the TN RC&D Council, the Southeast Council, and the National Council. - Participate in the Upper Cumberland Regional Development Team and support/coordinate with the Upper Cumberland Development District.

Population(s) Served

Provide community services and facilities that improve the quality of life for the people in the council area that will enhance or improve their social well being. Past programs include: National Trust for Historic Places LOWES grant for Rosenwald School at Freehills Community Club, Inc. in Celina, TN; First Wheels Program which provided interest free loans to purchase vehicles to qualified participants; Baseball Field at York Institute for students that had no ball field of their own; and assisting five-county industrial park in Clarkrange community of Fentress County. Other projects have included value-added agricultural products that enhance economic opportunities. We have assisted with Farmers Markets, 911 Centers, and School playgrounds.
