Notes from the nonprofit

MVF works in the animal welfare space with a focus on spay/neuter. Wellness and prevention are also a priority area since many deadly pet diseases and conditions can be prevented with vaccines/flea/tick prevention, dental care, ear and eye care, and spay/neuter. Trap-Neuter-Return TNR, is a practice that controls overpopulation among roaming cats. MVF provides free spay/neuter to nearly 5,000 cats annually. We operate pet retention and shelter deferment programs aimed at keeping pets in their homes vs. surrendered at a local shelter due to lack of resources for veterinary care. What types of Less than 1% of our annual budget is used to fund small scholarships (less than $5,000 annually) to individuals pursuing careers in veterinary technical field and veterinarian shelter medicine. 99% of our budget is spent directly on veterinary care for pets, strays, homeless cats/dogs. Approximately 10% of our annual budget is spend on the salary and office expense required to run our programs.

Project Unleashed

Provides free veterinary care to pets of low income, veterans, and homeless individuals

Population(s) Served
Homeless people
Economically disadvantaged people

Our PFL program provides services to people and pets who otherwise would not receive veterinary care or a pet support system. We continue to conduct door-to-door community outreach removing barriers to pet services and building long-lasting relationships with the marginalized in our community.

Population(s) Served
Economically disadvantaged people

MVF programs fill a void and complement the work of long-standing, large-scale providers of spay/neuter, such as Miami-Dade Animal Services and Humane Society. Our network of 21 participating veterinary clinics spans throughout Miami-Dade County. Network veterinarians and staff focus on spaying & neutering, as this is THE key starting place. Income-qualified residents receive free or low co-pay sterilization & rabies vaccine for owned cats/dogs. The County is home to approx. 500,000 roaming cats (many intact). Science tells us that 60% of litters born outdoors perish. Caring residents and humane trappers bring more than 5,000 community cats for free sterilization annually to MVF clinics. This effort alone contributes to thousands of feline lives saved each year.
