What we aim to solve
Our programs
What are the organization's current programs, how do they measure success, and who do the programs serve?
Parent Education Network (PEN) and Parents of the Panhandle Information Network (POPIN)
Parent Education Network (PEN) and Parents of the Panhandle Information Network (POPIN) are programs designed to ensure that parents of children with the full range of disabilities have the training and information they need to prepare their children for not only school, but to be able to lead productive, independent lives to the fullest extent possible. These programs offer free help and information to families of students with disabilities and thr professionals that serve them. POPIN provides these services to families living in the Panhandle of Florida from Escambia to Alachua County. PEN provides these services to the nine most southern counties in Florida (Collier, Hendry, Glades, Martin, Broward, Dade, Lee, Palm Beach, and Monroe).
Parents Educating Parents in the Community (PEP)
Parents Educating Parents in the Community (PEP) provides information, training, and support to parents of children with disabilities in isolated, rural areas of Florida, specifically Collier, Hendry, and Glades Counties.
All materials are translated into the participants' native language. Often the topics will be presented in dual languages, for example, in both English and Spanish, so that all family members are able to participate and understand.
In addition to providing training on topics related to special education, the PEP Project also provides:
"Saturday in the Park" trainings (family-friendly events in outdoor settings).
A Mentor Program for helping family members to become active in local and/or state committees or councils.
Trainings on accessing and utilizing the internet.
Training and assistance on strategies for reaching typically underserved populations.
Family STAR (Support, Training, Assistance, Resources)
Family STAR is Florida's Family to Family Health Information Center. This porgram provides information and support to families of children and youth with special health care needs.
Transition, Independent Living, Employment & Support (TILES)
TILES is a statewide project that targets youth and young adults with disabilities, ages 14 to 22, receiving special education and related services, in Florida. TILES activities are designed to enable individuals with disabiliites and their families to participate more effectively with professionals in meeting the vocational, independent living, and rehabilitation needs of individuals with disabilities. The activities and resources provided by TILES are free to families.
