Center for American Ideals

The JMI Center for American Ideals seeks to help students within and outside Florida learn more about the time-honored ideals that have animated American life since our nation’s founding. The Center provides a variety of useful resources for instructors and students including booklets, posters, learning activities, quizzes and more. The JMI Campus Representatives program is housed within this Center.

In addition, the Center regularly sponsors a bevy of special learning opportunities for K-12 school students including presentations by public officials, prominent scholars, and historical performers as well as a number of programs for college students including movie nights, book clubs, seminars and internships.

While the Center addresses a wide range of topics, its work is primarily organized around two time-honored ideals: (1) freedom and (2) thrift. These ideals are often underappreciated in our day; yet they are foundational to the American way of life.

The J. Stanley Marshall Center for Educational Options seeks to advance policy reforms that empower Florida parents to choose the schools, courses, resources and programs that best meet their child’s unique needs, interests, aptitudes and learning styles. Through policy research, public and media outreach, public testimony and events, the Marshall Center works vigorously to expand learning options for all Florida students.
JMI’s Center for Educational Options has a special concern for disadvantaged students who have often been denied quality schooling. To this end, we work to defend, expand and raise public awareness about a number of well-established school choice programs. The Marshall Center has been a strong proponent of education scholarship accounts (ESAs), which allow parents to control the per-pupil dollars designated for their child’s education and incentivize them to seek the best “bang-for-their-buck” in education spending.

Across the U.S., free-enterprise believers and entrepreneurs face substantial and, at times, overwhelming barriers to bringing new, exciting and potentially superior products and services to market. These barriers are unnatural and artificial – they seek only to protect entrenched interests at the expense of market-based competition. In the end, consumers, economic prosperity and liberty lose out.
The mission of the Center for Economic Prosperity is to promote free-market solutions that unleash entrepreneurialism and fuel the American economic engine for all. The Center publishes scholarly work, holds educational campaigns and events, builds coalitions and promotes policy reform in areas such as healthcare, tax and regulation, criminal justice reform, federalism and property insurance.

If there is anything that can be said about the 21st Century it is this – that we are in the midst of a technology revolution that has fundamentally altered, and continues to alter, the very fabric of our lives. The pace of change is so fast that entire industries are forced into a “keep pace or die trying” mentality.

Whether it is the advent of driverless cars, the use of technology in delivering healthcare services, or the deployment of 5G broadband across the state, policymakers will be faced with ever more important decisions every year.

The mission of the Center for Technology and Innovation is to provide meaningful and practical solutions to technology advances currently occurring, while also promoting a policy landscape is conducive to advances that are yet to come. In addition to research papers and articles on these subjects, JMI hosts an annual "Tech and Innovation Summit" that draws participants from across the country.
