What are the organization's current programs, how do they measure success, and who do the programs serve?

Organization Development

This program supports all other Main Street efforts through the development of a strong volunteer base, committee structure, and managing the organizations finances. This program is charged with creating a diverse fundraising plan, Board development plan, and a long term strategic plan for the organization. The organization program serves all Main Street programs.

Population(s) Served

This program is focused on "promoting" our downtown as the center of commerce, culture, and community life for residents and visitors. This program creates and markets the image and brand, and thern communicates the message to the community. Main Street: Murfreesboro presents an annual free music festival drawing over 25,000 residents and tourists to downtown Murfresboro. Our summer concert series and holiday tree lighting celebration bring families to the public square for family oriented fun and entertainment. A newly formed Business Alliance helps Main Street remain focused on retail promotions and creative tools to sell downtown as a destination; a gathering place for everyone.

Population(s) Served

Main Street's Design program plays a key role in shaping the physical image of Main Street as a place attractive to shoppers, investors, business owners, and visitors. The Design program has developed Design Guidelines as recomendations for new construction and renovations. The Design Review Committee met with architects on a recent mixed-use development and reviewed preliminary designs for renovating a commercial building downtown. After meetings with City of Murfreesboro officials, the committee plans to update the guidelines.

Population(s) Served

This program is responsible for identifying new market opportunities for the traditional commercial district, find new uses for historic commercial buildings, and stimulate investment in property. To this end, Main Street works with the Rutherford County chamber, Rutherford County Government and City of Murfreesboro to propose open commercial property for lease or purchase, search for additional businesses that build clusters and add variety to the retail mix. Downtown Murfreesboro remains a strong center for entrepreneurs and new business. In 2007 there were 27 renovation projects, four new construction projects, and eight new businesses located in the downtown commercial business district.
