What we aim to solve
Our programs
What are the organization's current programs, how do they measure success, and who do the programs serve?
The Alabama Association of Independent Colleges and Universities (AAICU) is a not-for-profit organization that works with independent colleges and universities in the state providing financial assistance and access to higher education for students from all backgrounds. We currently have fourteen member institutions and serve over 24,000 students. We offer a menu for giving to our scholarship fund that includes the following options.
1.'Unrestricted Scholarship Gift' defray the cost of education for all students attending our member schools regardless of the student's race, color, creed, national origin, or financial standing. The student must be an undergraduate student and maintain a 3.0 GPA.
2.'Need Based Scholarships' are given to undergraduate students showing academic potential with an annual family income of $35,000 or less. More than 90% of our students receive some form of financial aid.
3.'Merit Based Scholarships' are awarded to students showing exceptional academic proficiency. Scholarship recipients are selected by a school representative and must maintain at least a 3.5 GPA.
4.'Named Scholarship Program' enables donors to create a scholarship in their name at each of our 14 member colleges. The minimum gift required is $14,000, a $1000 scholarship for each school with accompanying statewide publicity and recognition in the association newsletter. Scholarships may be designated for specific purposes by the donor; however all recipients must be Alabama residents demonstrating financial need and academic promise.
5.'Minority Based Scholarships' are given to minority undergraduate students displaying academic and leadership potential. These scholarships are intended to assist any minority scholar nominated by his/her school. Our membership includes five Historically Black Colleges and Universities and combined minority enrollment of over 11,284 students. 6.'Major Specific Scholarships' are given to undergraduate students pursuing specific academic majors such as Education, Business, Nursing, Health Care, Math, Science, etc. Recipients must be Alabama residents majoring in a discipline designated by the donor.
7.'Internship programs'
