Mission

The Earthman Project, founded in 1997, uses the power of music, the arts, and interactive web design, to teach children and adults about the gift of life our planet gives us, educate them as to the danger we are in by the destruction of the environment, and inspire them to action. Music, the arts, ad the technology of the web, are very powerful tools to deliver a message locally, nationally, and worldwide. www.TheEarthmanProject.org. The project is led by the North American Association of Environmental Educators Environmental Educator of the Year (2006), and award-winning performing artist and songwriter, Lanny Smith. Lanny is better known as the "Earthman" to more than 2,000,000 children and adults. He has brought together the finest South Florida based musicians, dancers, writers, visual artists, and filmmakers to use their talents in making a difference. Their multi-language 'We've Got The Power' music video PSA has been in heavy rotation on South Florida television. Their new music media "The Earthman Blues" has been seen worldwide on the web. Their inspiring concerts have been to more than 700 festivals and 1000 schools.

What are the organization's current programs, how do they measure success, and who do the programs serve?

The Earthman Project focuses its outreach on five areas: Concerts, Web actions, radio and television musical PSA outreach, recording and development of innovative environmental web based learning journeys for children and adults. Earthman, a character created by the founder, Lanny Smith, is the lead outreach. Wearing an Earth, Earthman speaks, performs, teaches and inspires audiences with the knowledge that each one of us has the power to make a difference. His concert outreach has educated and inspired people in cities across the eastern part of the United States. Earthman and the Planet Earth Project innovative and original jazz - world music, theatrical journeys, features the finest South Florida artists. Tour partners include the Miami-Dade Department of Environmental Resource Management. This outreach has reached millions of residents and tourists in every demographic of our community. Seeking new ways of reaching audiences, EMP produced a live Global Web Radio Concert in connection with the Earth Day Network, and a live Public Radio concert. Its web site www.Earthman.TV has become one of the most inspiring and innovative places on the web. The Project's messages through music has been on the top radio stations in South Florida in English, Spanish and Creole. PEP's "We've Got The Power" musical video PSA ran in heavy rotation on the Warner Brother s Channel 39 station. The project has created more than five CD's, videos, posters and other projects which have been distributed to more than 500 schools. Their 'The Pledge (An Earth Anthem)' song project has been recorded in English, Spanish, Creole and Portuguese. A poster, based on "The Pledge (An Earth Anthem) is hanging in every elementary school in South Florida. Recently, The Earthman Project has developed an In-Home Grass Roots Event Strategy to work with Vice President Al Gore's film "An Inconvenient Truth". This strategy is free to download at www.Earthman.TV.
