Mission

Use it up, wear it out, make it do or do without. That’s the philosophy behind Resource Depot, where people are encouraged to give discarded materials a new life through art and education. For more than 20 years, Resource Depot has tackled Palm Beach County’s growing waste problem by rescuing unwanted and excess materials, turning waste into wonder. Resource Depot collects donations from businesses and individuals and redistributes the items to teachers, artists, families, and other non-profit organizations that need them, encouraging creative, hands-on learning and innovation. Not only does this support arts and education programs by stretching supply budgets, Resource Depot keeps hundreds of thousands of pounds reusable materials out of the landfill each year.

What are the organization's current programs, how do they measure success, and who do the programs serve?

Materials Marketplace, GalleRE and Field Trip/Workshop Programs

We want to inspire the next generation to value and care for the planet they’re inheriting. As we encourage young people to have fun with our materials, Resource Depot educates them about their impact on the environment. We provide this education through field trip/workshop experiences (both on-site and off-site), after school program curriculum, summer Junk Camp and through a myriad of community events throughout Palm Beach County. However, the best way for someone to learn the importance and impact of reuse is to visit our West Palm Beach facility which houses our Materials Marketplace available for the shopping of reuse materials for education, arts and play as well as our GalleRE space which houses a rotating exhibit of local artists (young and old) who create through reuse. As visitors browse through our extensive collection of curated donations, staff is available to provide some brainstorming assistance as they seek the right materials for their project or creative endeavor.
