What we aim to solve
Our programs
What are the organization's current programs, how do they measure success, and who do the programs serve?
Watershed Awareness
The Science and Environment Council works to promote best practices among area residents and visitors for conserving water and protecting our waters. The program has taken various approaches including: 1) workshops for policy-makers to develop consensus documents around water issues in the region, 2) production and distribution of high quality videos on watershed protection, 3) educational kiosks that travel between SEC member sites, 4) outdoor interpretive signs overlooking watershed features at SEC member sites, 5) a watershed mobile phone tour with 30 stops at SEC member sites, and 6) watershed awareness outreach campaigns delivered via events and through creative social media.
Climate Council of Sarasota-Manatee
The Climate Council is a non-partisan, non-advocacy facilitated network of experts and practitioners working on climate change issues in the Sarasota Manatee Region. It works collaboratively to advance regional understandings of climate change through science and education and helps translate those understandings into planning and projects. Activities focus on promoting a science-based approach to improving understanding of climate issues and facilitating a coordinated regional response through information sharing and collaboration. Participants in the Climate Council will include representatives from public and private sector organizations. Broad community participation will include representatives from self-organized groups including – business, insurance and banking, realtor and developer, faith, agriculture, health and wellness, art and culture and community foundations.
Community Conversations
Outreach and education events designed to increase environmental literacy in the community and to forge a spirit of cooperation among private and public sectors to conserve and restore priority environments.
