ArtsView Children's Theatre

The ArtsView Children's Theatre (ACT) was chartered in February of 2004. ACT began with a vision, defined by an energetic group of board members. During the following months, educational workshops for children were provided along with ACT's initial production for families.

Serving as the only children's theatre and theatre education center of Longview, Texas (pop 79, 501) and Gregg County (pop 112,110), ACT is now located at 313 West Tyler Street in downtown Longview in a beautifully renovated building which was established as their home in September 2004. The facility contains a main staging area which was developed into a Theatre-in-the-Round. Generous donations of time, talent and financial support has provided us with free-standing risers backed with black curtains, chairs, freshly painted walls and a light grid for special effects. A small kitchen and office area stand next to the Education Room which also doubles as a Prop and Make-Up room during productions. We are also very excited about a growing Costume and Set Shop where set construction and storage can take place. The building has come alive with the steps of children and families.

ArtsView produces main stage performances and conducts production-based academies at the building. A wide range of students and family members participate. The public is invited to view productions for a minimal ticket fee.

Outreach projects take productions out into the community. Approximately 8,000 area school children enjoyed the experience of live theatre in a collaborative project underwritten by the Junior League of Longview. In February 2006, Freedom Train was provided by a traveling professional troupe, Express Childrens Theatre. This project enjoyed the collaborative efforts of the two downtown Museums who offered extended enrichment classes to students, and included a guest visit by the playwright, Celeste Walker. In addition to this, a Traveling Troupe is formed to travel with a play that is performed in a variety of settings. In 2006, ?The Tobacco Club? was presented to community groups such as the Boys and Girls Club of Longview. Funding in part was provided with a grant from the Tobacco Fund of Texas.

Education classes are brimming each year with eager students who want to hone their acting skills and develop their craft. A variety of opportunities have been offered; and scholarships are made available to all who need assistance with the fee-based classes.
