GREY SAVE
Programs and results
What we aim to solve
While the majority of GreySave's greyhounds come from the Caliente Race Track in Tijuana, Mexico, we also take in racing greyhounds from animal shelters, from individuals who can no longer care for them and occasionally get young hounds that did not race and older brood moms from kennels in the mid-west. GreySave provides a safety net for all of our previously adopted greyhounds and those that have moved to Southern California by always accepting them into the GreySave family.
Our programs
What are the organization's current programs, how do they measure success, and who do the programs serve?
Greyhound Adoptions
The majorly of out adoptable greyhounds come from the Agua Caliente Race Track in Tijuana, Mexico. Once in the US, each greyhound has a dental cleaning, is spayed/neutered, vaccinated and given a full medical check-up. All of our dogs are placed in experienced foster homes, where they are taught about life off the track as they await loving Forever Homes. GreySave takes all ex-racing greyhounds - well, sick or injured.

Goals & Strategy

Charting impact
Four powerful questions that require reflection about what really matters - results.
What is the organization aiming to accomplish?
We educate and inform the public about greyhounds, their appeal as pets, their unique characteristics, behaviors and needs. Given the greyhound's gentle nature and willingness to please, we encourage their use as therapy and service dogs. To reach as many potential adopters as possible, we participate in events at venues throughout the year in Los Angeles, Orange, Ventura, San Bernardino, Riverside and Santa Barbara counties.
What are the organization's key strategies for making this happen?
Our model is that 100% of dogs are in foster care where they adjust to life off the the racetrack and learn how to be companions. While the dogs are in GreySave's experienced foster homes, we address any medical issues, provide dental care and help them recover from their spay or neuter surgery. We only bring in as many dogs as we have foster homes available, usually between 5 to15 dogs every 4 to 6 weeks.
What are the organization's capabilities for doing this?
GreySave is staffed entirely by volunteers. The organization has no paid positions. Most volunteers have worked in greyhound adoption for many years. They give of their time and money purely out of the love for the dogs and commitment to the goal of finding greyhounds forever homes.
What have they accomplished so far and what's next?
Since 2006, we have placed over 1750 greyhounds into homes and provided a safety net for them for the rest of their lives. We will continue to advocate for the adoption of these wonderful hounds until each has a loving, forever home,
