Mission

Our mission is to promote diversity in healthcare. We accomplish our mission by promoting education to the Latino American community and the education of healthcare providers working with Latino American patients. We also promote the education of students from Latino American descent by providing scholarships and mentorship.

What are the organization's current programs, how do they measure success, and who do the programs serve?

Dr Carlos Finlay Multidisciplinary Medical Conference

This a conference educates healthcare professionals and provides with continuation of education credits that are needed to renew medical professional licenses. We choose a new topic every year. Provided live education via Zoom and You tube videos on covid19 and the vaccines in Spanish and English in 2020,2021. Provided live zoom seminars on wellness for healthcare professionals. On October 15,2022 will have Zoom conference on “Mental health of the LatinX community in Philadelphia “. This past year we talked about the contaminants found in water and how they affect the health the the community. This year 2019, we held our first annual Veterans Suicide Prevention Summit.

Our area is Philadelphia and the Delaware Valley. In 2020, we have recorded and distributed videos via social media including You tube educating about Covid19 in Spanish and English. Our healthcare professionals have provided education via TV interviews with Telemundo and Univision. We have integrated community members into our Public health committee that meets weekly.
We have discussed topics on Hispanic-Latinx healthcare in the radio shows "Para Ti Mujer" and "Dos Puntos" to educate the population in Spanish and English. Amongst the topics discussed are: Latina women healthcare, opioids use disorders, mental health, diabetes. We also have presented live and virtual workshops to educate the community in partnership with other non profit organization, universities and professional organizations e.g. American Heart Association, Esperanza college, local newspapers (Impacto, Al Dia), National Association of Hispanic Nurses, Drexel School of Medicine (LMSA), Philadelphia County Medical Society. We had a Veterans Suicide Prevention Summit that included veterans, healthcare professionals, and military individuals on partnership with Philadelphia County Medical Society, Governor's Advisory Commission for Latino Affairs.

We provide scholarships to students in healthcare w a gpa Of 3.50, hx of volunteering in community service or pursuing research .

to address and bridge the gap of underrepresentation of Latinx hispanic in the healthcare workforce through scholarships and mentorship

the integration of technology to reach out a larger audience via zoom meetings, media (radio, TV, you tube videos and social media)
the creation of committees to get membership a sense of belonging and collaboration
the collaboration with partners in media and technology to broadcast healthcare literacy in Spanish

Our presence in social media has grown to 400 followers. Our presence has connected with more than a thousand impressions in twitter.

We outreach and leverage our presence by participating actively physically and virtually in workshops, panels, networking events.

We are outreaching to the different healthcare systems, schools of medicine and public health in Philadelphia.

we had created the Public health committee in April 2020 officially. We opened a You tube channel. We are actively educating the community on covid19 via TV, radio and our educational videos.

We are developing a wellness committee to help the healthcare workers in Spanish
