Mission

Rockwood Leadership Institute was founded in 2000 to supports leaders to transform themselves, their communities, and the world towards equity, liberation, and sustainability for all. We do this by providing powerful and effective training to individual leaders and cohorts, thereby strengthening the organizations and movements they represent. As one of the principal providers of multi-day transformative leadership trainings across the country, Rockwood is integral to the ecosystem of social change nonprofits, the hub of a large diverse multiracial alumni network, and central to the development of leadership across social change movements.

What are the organization's current programs, how do they measure success, and who do the programs serve?

Art of Leadership

Art of Leadership is a five-day intensive residential retreat that teaches powerful visioning, listening, speaking, presentation, team-building and feedback skills to emerging and established social change leaders.
Taught in an intimate learning community limited to 24-30 emerging and longtime leaders, working across a wide range of issues: climate change, human and civil rights, arts and cultural work.
Led by nationally recognized thinkers, educators and activists who are experts at sharing in-depth insights and innovative leadership practices.

Population(s) Served
Adults

Leading from the Inside Out is Rockwood's innovative yearlong fellowship program for senior executive leaders. This advanced, invitation-only program is designed to create a dramatic shift in participants' capacity to both lead their organizations and networks effectively and to collaborate across the boundaries of issue area, political and organizing orientation, geography and background. While many nonprofits have training for campaigners and organizers, there are few opportunities for established leaders to move to the highest level of personal and collective effectiveness.

Since 2003, this executive leadership program has emerged as one of the nation's leading learning laboratories for experienced social change leaders.

Population(s) Served
Adults

Rockwood Fellowships convene leaders within a given issue area or geographic region in order to catalyze more powerful and engaged learning communities and partnerships. Designed as a longer term, multi-retreat experience, each fellowship program identifies 18-24 influential leaders to engage in intensive training and receive tools in transformational leadership.

Rockwood Fellowships are created in association with foundations wishing to support leadership development and partnership building within a given field or geographic region.

Population(s) Served

The training provides leaders resources to exercise leadership through change and complexity. Leaders will work with frameworks and tools for leading change in complex situations that require more than a quick fix and develop a capacity for greater resilience and purpose for dealing with difficult situations and uncertainty.
