What we aim to solve
Our programs
What are the organization's current programs, how do they measure success, and who do the programs serve?
Stream Restoration
Stream Team: The work of the Stream Team (Citizen Stream Monitoring Teams) is being scaled back in anticipation of the retirement of our current Executive Director, who will continue as a program manager to complete work under existing contracts. 2018, however will continue to be big year for restoration activities, with a major project in Morgan County and two smaller ones in Cumberland County. While stream clean-ups will continue, the continuation of the monitoring program is under review. Planting and stabilization activities will continue.
Community Engagement
Build partnerships with public agencies, youth serving organizations, and the development community. Collaborate with the City of Crossville’s MS4 program, stormwater master plan for its Centennial Recreation Park, and greenways development, and the development of the Cumberland Habitat Conservation Plan. Outreach to youth through partnerships with schools, including Roane State Community College, offering service hour opportunities.
Centennial Park Project
At this stage, this work is primarily maintaining the work previously done in the park. Crossville's Centennial Park was designed for recreation and as such is heavily used, with over 40,000 separate users a year. Running through the bottom of the part is a small tributary to the Little Obed river and there are three major intermittent streams or drainageways that flow downhill in the part to meet this trib. This project, installed in 2012-13 improved the water quality and ecological functioning of this stream through direct work on the stream and indirect work on the drainageways to control stormwater better. Because of the highly public nature of the work, the whole project is seen as a demonstration of various strategies that can be adopted by both developers and landowners that either have streams or drainageways on their property.
