What we aim to solve
Our programs
What are the organization's current programs, how do they measure success, and who do the programs serve?
Trail Work Volunteer Events
OCMTBA hosts trail work days to enhance the quality and diversity and safety of trails in Orange County. Funds are used to purchase urgently needed tools and supplies for trail work days. Tools and supplies include: volunteer food and snacks, trail work tools such as mcLeod’s, picks, shovels, and rakes; trail boss education, and medical kits including sunscreen.
Bike Bell Program
OCMTBA has partnered with Orange County Parks and the Laguna Canyon Foundation on mountain bike bell programs in Orange County. Trail user conflicts are a growing issue in Orange County parks. The bells give trail users warning enhancing the safety in the outdoor experience. Trail users are encouraged to return the bike bells.
Craig Bike Park Project
Funding and advocacy for the Craig Bike Park Project. The project will continue the creation of a non-motorized 10 acre bike park facility benefiting all ages, abilities, and skill level of mountain. The project area is approximately 10 acres and will provide approximately 5 miles of new trails. Currently, the project is approved by OC Parks and is in site environmental and geology review. This phase is estimated at $75,000 and is supported by County Funds, REI Grant, and other donations such as OCMTBA.
Trail Boss Program
The OCMTBA trail ambassadors, also known as trail bosses, collaborate with park rangers and environmental specialists to identify key trail development and maintenance needs throughout the annual trail work season. Our trail bosses take personal accountability to perform critical trail repairs and maintenance. This program continues to be successful and was a very important program to assure continued sustainability of trails and to enhance public safety for trail users. Trail bosses also serve as key park representatives and managed larger OCMTBA trail work days for trail development and maintenance.
