Programs and results

What we aim to solve

SOURCE: Self-reported by organization

HYSC is working to prevent unwanted animals in our community through our low-cost spay/neuter program, education on being a good pet owner, and working with our city government officials. HSYC staff and board are working to implement stronger ordinances that will stop the issue of animals roaming and breeding indiscriminately, and enact stronger penalties on those who repeatedly let their animals roam the streets. By cutting down on all the unwanted litters and roaming pets we can lower the number of animals coming into our shelter along with lower the number of euthanasias.

Our programs

What are the organization's current programs, how do they measure success, and who do the programs serve?

PETS Low Cost Spay & Neuter Satellite Clinic

PETS Clinic comes to the shelter twice monthly for scheduled low cost spays and neuters. We also offer a walk-in clinic at that time for low cost preventatives including vaccinations, dewormers, heart worm and feline leukemia testing and flea and tick preventatives. We also offer free nail trims at that time.

Goals & Strategy

Charting impact

Four powerful questions that require reflection about what really matters - results.

The Humane Society of Young County is working to stop the overpopulation problem our community faces though education and providing access to low-cost spays and neuters through the P.E.T.S. Clinic hosted at our facility monthly.
HSYC promotes the adoption of behaviorally and medically sound pets from our shelter. Each pet adopted is up-to-date with all age appropriate vaccinations, spayed/neutered, microchipped, dewormed and tested for heartworms or Felv/FIV.
Through education and our hosting of the P.E.T.S. Clinic we also hope to stem the spread of diseases from pet to pet and from pet to humans through vaccinations for parvo, distemper, feline upper respiratory infections, and Rabies.
HSYC strives to return owned stray animals to their homes. By providing access to low-cost microchipping, we hope to make it easier for families to reconnect with their pets when they go missing.

HSYC provides monthly access to the P.E.T.S. Low-Cost Spay and Neuter Clinic for lower cost vet care including vaccinations, testing, and heartworm, flea, and tick preventatives. Grants are available for those with government assistance and for those with feral or free-roaming cats providing even lower costs for surgery.
HSYC provides easy and affordable access to puppy and kitten booster vaccinations and microchipping.
The staff and board of HSYC, along with members of the city government, are working on improvements to the city ordinances pertaining to dogs and cats to further curb dogs running-at-large, the chance for dog bites to the public, and other nuisances.
The staff and board of HSYC attend training seminars and other educational trainings to stay up-to-date on all aspects of sheltering and animal care. HSYC staff members have certifications in Fear-free Handling, Euthanasia protocols, and Compassion Fatigue as well as training in positive reinforcement training techniques, behavioral evaluations, and behavioral modification.
