Mission Statement - Enhance the personal growth and professionalism of our members by: Serving as a nonpolitical advocate for songwriters and performers in liaison with peer organizations throughout the country.
Serving as a forum for networking among peers and with industry experts to generate career opportunities
Sharpening required competencies for excelling in the songwriting profession.

What we aim to solve
Our programs
What are the organization's current programs, how do they measure success, and who do the programs serve?
Monthly Meeting
We feature a speaker or activity during our second Tuesday meeting. These speakers appear in person or via Skype. We have had speakers like Richard Leigh, Carly Simon, Ben Taylor, Arnold McCuller, and Barry DeVorzon.
Song Swap
On the first Monday of every month we have a Song Swap. People bring in songs or lyrics that they are working on along with lyric sheets if applicable. Members listen to the song or lyric and make meaningful suggestions about potential improvements to the song
Open Mic
We feature one or more open mic events to allow people to perform songs that they have written.
Workshops
Dallas Songwriters Association sponsor or co-sponsors a number of workshops throughout the year. Our most current workshop was a collaboration with the Wildflower Arts and Music Festival in Richardson, Texas. Award winning songwriter Beth Nielsen Chapman spoke about the creative spirit of songwriting and offered a critique of songs submitted by attendees.
Song Contest
DSA holds an annual song contest to provide a benchmark for songwriting competency
Lyric Contest
DSA holds a quarterly Lyric Contest to serve as a benchmark fpr lyric writing competency
Dallas Songwriters Toy Drive
The Dallas Songwriters Association Toy Drive partners with The Larry Tutson Jr. Toy Drive to benefit the South Dallas Youth Community on July 27th at Sons of Hermann Hall OBA. BBQ and Blues. Suggested minimum donation $10. This is a fundraising event to provide toys and bicycles (helmets and locks with each bike) at Christmas to children in South Dallas. Event is annually in July.
