Programs and results
What we aim to solve
Fort Chadbourne has met and exceeded the original goals that were set in 1999 when the Foundation was established. The endowment of an any organization is the probably the hardest challenge that they face. Endowment is one of the needs our organization is working to address. We continually address operating and marketing areas as well.
Our programs
What are the organization's current programs, how do they measure success, and who do the programs serve?
Fort Chadbourne Visitor Center/Museum
The visitor center/museum is open Tuesday thru Saturday from 8:00 a.m. until 5:00 p.m. The center houses artifacts and collections that provide visitors an educational and fun visit. Our goal is to present what life was like in the 1850's. We start with you saddling up and watching a 20 minute video about Fort Chadbourne. You then step into a stage coach to see what traveling on the Butterfield Stage Route was like. Walk thru a teepee to see many military , Native American, and ranching artifacts on display that were found at Fort Chadbourne. A large antique gun collection, a Medal of Honor tribute with 6 MOH recipients that served at Fort Chadbourne is one of the exhibits. We have guided and self guided tours to see the actual fort site and guided rides to see the small buffalo herd, the two longhorns and donkey located nearby on the ranch. The center has exposed many visitors to what life was like living on the West Texas Frontier. Fort Chadbourne strictly runs off donations. Come out and step back in time and visit the real West Texas Frontier! Fort Chadbourne is a non governmental entity and we are very proud of our success. We were told we could not do this project.
Brick and Granite Tile Program
As a fundraising program, we are selling brick and granite tiles. The brick sell for $50.00 and the granite tile are $1000.00.

Goals & Strategy

Charting impact
Four powerful questions that require reflection about what really matters - results.
What is the organization aiming to accomplish?
Our organization is trying to help keep our heritage alive thru visitation of our historic site. Fort Chadbourne is one of the historic forts that was vital in traveling west to the California Gold Rush as settlers were moving thru Indian Territory. Our site educates nowaday travelers visiting what all was here at Fort Chadbourne. We have addressed the Native Americans, Military (Union and Confederate) history, Butterfield Mail Route, buffalo hunters, Medal of Honor tribute, and Ranching. We address everything that was out at Fort Chadbourne.
What are the organization's key strategies for making this happen?
We are always researching, updating displays, and educating visitors as they visit our site. We continually look for new ideas to enhance the visitor's experience!
What are the organization's capabilities for doing this?
We write grants to help with special projects. History is one of the few areas that have very limited funds. We also do most things inhouse.
What have they accomplished so far and what's next?
We have a new event where we have a guest speaker and invite our area military as guests. We have had two Medal of Honor Recipients speak and our military has been very overwhelmed at being able to attend and be recognized for their service. The Medal of Honor Recipient also pins any Vietnam War era veteran during the ceremonly. This has been very well received! We hope to continue this event for many years to come. This means alot to the Vietnam War Veterans. We will continue to find new ways to promote Fort Chadbourne and all what is offered at this site.
