THE MISSION OF THE CHARITABLE FOUNDATION OF THE KIWANIS CLUB OF THOUSAND OAKS IS TO PROVIDE SUPPORT AND ACTIVE HANDS-ON SERVICE BENEFITING CHILDREN, FAMILIES AND THOSE IN NEED THROUGH THE PARTICIPATION OF OUR VOLUNTEERS.

THE BIKES FOR YOUTH PROGRAM TAKES DONATED BICYCLES, REFURBISHES THEM, ADD A NEW BIKE HELMET AND LOCK,THEN DONATES THE BICYCLES TO CHILDREN AND YOUNG ADULTS WHO NEED THE BICYCLES TO GET TO SCHOOL/WORK. THE FOUNDATION WORKS THROUGH SEVERAL ORGANIZATIONS TO ASSURE THE BICYCLES GET TO THE TARGETED AUDIENCE. THIS INCLUDES ORGANIZATIONS AS TEEN CENTER, ADELANTE, HARBOR HOUSE, SAFE PASSAGE AND OTHERS. THERE WERE 109 BIKES GIVEN TO YOUTH AND YOUNG ADULTS THIS YEAR REQUIRING ABOUT 350 HOURS TO REPAIR THE COLLECTED BIKES.

SCHOLARSHIPS WERE AWARDED TO TWELVE (12) COLLEGE-BOUND QUALIFYING HIGH SCHOOL SENIORS. IT IS ESTIMATED THAT 75 PERSONS WERE DIRECTLY AFFECTED BY THESE SCHOLARSHIPS. SCHOLARSHIPS RANGED FROM $1,000 TO $5,000 GIVEN TO SENIORS BASED ON GRADES, SERVICE AND NEED. THE COMMITTEE SPENT 245 HOURS WORKING ON THE SCHOLARSHIPS.

WEATHERSFILED ELEMENTARY SCHOOL GARDEN BOXES - ALL 417 STUDENTS WILL BENEFIT FROM THE GARDEN, MORE SPECIFICALLY 3 CLASSES EACH YEAR OF 60+ SECOND GRADERS WHO PLANT AND THEN SHARE THEIR HARVEST WITH ALL THE CLASSES. THE FOUNDATION PROVIDED THE FUNDS AND LABOR TO REBUILD THE BOXES INCLUDING HELP FROM THE K-KIDS, VOLUNTEERS AND THEIR PARENTS. TOTAL OF 20 VOLUNTEERS SPEND 20 HOURS REPAIRING THE BOXES AND PAINTING THE BOXES.
