INSTITUTE FOR CONTEMPLATIVE LIFE

aka Inner Pathway   |   Redlands, CA   |  www.innerpathway.com

Mission

Our purpose is to support the "inner pathway" of all who come to us. We are not allied with any sect or denomination. By "inner pathway," we refer to the qualities innate to the human spirit and valued by all the world's great religions and philosophies: love, joy, gratitude, forgiveness, compassion, inner peace, beauty, and humor. We inspire and sustain the inner pathway by presenting the teachings and practices of diverse verified spiritual paths in a way that is of practical benefit. We publish unique interfaith books, podcasts, and films. We offer classes, retreats, workshops, recovery groups, weekly meditation gatherings, and private sessions in Spiritual Direction.

What we aim to solve

SOURCE: Self-reported by organization

Human suffering is pervasive. We go directly to critical point: the inner causes of suffering. Inner suffering is not as obvious as outer suffering such as poverty, but it is the root cause of most human problems, both individual and collective. Examples of inner suffering that our programs help to alleviate are: Meaninglessness. Patterns of addiction. Loneliness. Fear and anxiety. Self-hatred. Anger and resentment. Religious trauma. Loving Kindness Meditation - Virtual, Weekly Group

A weekly 30-minute virtual meditation, focused on Loving Kindness practice, led by Dr. Fran Grace. We begin with a short reading or story, followed by a brief relaxation and the Loving Kindness Meditation, which is a gently guided meditation in loving kindness for oneself, for one's beloveds, strangers, enemies, and all beings. We close with a brief song or poem from a participant who volunteers to share. No prior experience needed. This practice has its origins in the Buddhas teaching on loving kindness for all beings, but our group members come from various faiths or none. All are welcome. Age of participants has been 3 to 91, from all backgrounds, spiritualities, and nationalities. Program is free of charge. Registration required for Zoom link. https://innerpathway.com/events/

We offer the service of Spiritual Direction to individuals seeking support for their Soul's journey.

Also called Spiritual Companionship or Mentoring, Spiritual Direction is a time-honored service that provides a compassionate space for your Soul to be heard. It is a context of Self-discovery and guidance that offers mature and loving support for your journey in life and, in some cases, death. Although the sessions may encompass support that approximates “life coaching,” Spiritual Direction emphasizes the needs and values of the Soul.

Modalities vary and may include deep listening, nature, prayer, contemplative practices, guided meditation, Jungian-oriented dreamwork, visualization, music, art, personal inventories and self-inquiries.

Dr. Fran Grace has been a Certified Spiritual Director since 2000 and is a listed member in the Spiritual Directors International.

We have produced one feature documentary, A SEMESTER WITHIN (2008), illuminating the transformation of college students enrolled in contemplative, interfaith courses. Dr. Fran Grace created the courses, which integrate academic learning with profound inner methods of Self-discovery, healing, and growth.

We have also produced several workshop videos that feature an interfaith approach Mysticism and Mystics, available on Vimeo on Demand: https://vimeo.com/innerpathway/vod_pages

Our YouTube and Vimeo channels offer inspiring interviews and short videos of a spiritual nature.

Our "Heart Matters" podcast finished 4 episodes in 2019. Once funded, we are eager to re-vivify this podcast to include real-life stories that inspire and sustain the human spirit.

Charting impact

Four powerful questions that require reflection about what really matters - results.

EDUCATE:

Provide resources, teachings, and inner practices that educate people on the inner life. Teach methods of how to heal negative patterns that cause inner suffering, and how to grow in positive qualities such as compassion. The root word of education is 'educare', which means to uncover the inner Self of the student.

INSPIRE:

Share stories of transformation in the lives of real people - stories that convey strength and hope. The participants in our programs learn a lot from each other's life experiences.

MENTOR:

Mentor and support people as they go through the process of transformation. Guidance from leaders as well as peer-support in small groups, which function as enclaves of light and love.
