Charting impact
Four powerful questions that require reflection about what really matters - results.
What is the organization aiming to accomplish?
The overarching mission of the Clean Air Institute is to enable efforts to effectively address climate change, air pollution and urban sustainability challenges in Latin America by facilitating cities and nations to provide healthy, productive environments for their residents through cleaner air, reduced greenhouse gas emissions, and high quality, low impact transportation and energy choices.
What are the organization's key strategies for making this happen?
CAI provides policy, program and project development assistance coupled with access to state-of-the-art knowledge and expertise; delivering capacity development and knowledge exchange opportunities; opening doors for financing and other resource opportunities; facilitating policy dialogue and knowledge exchange; fostering alliances and partnerships among public, private and social entities; and catalyzing decision making, consensus building and investment processes.
What are the organization's capabilities for doing this?
The Institute implements its' mission through five core areas of expertise:
- Technical assistance and training
- Integrated policy assessment
- Knowledge management and dissemination
- Facilitating and convening policy dialogues
- Project/program management and monitoring
These expertise serve to allow the Institute to improve the Region's impact on health, welfare and the environment through the reduction in air pollutant and greenhouse gas emissions by unlocking and catalyzing change in those sectors we believe can be targeted to optimize mitigation potential of cities and nations.
What have they accomplished so far and what's next?
During the last ten years, we have advanced in our mission to support governments in Latin America to improve air quality, mitigate climate change and protect public health. Some of our major achievements include:
- Design and implementation of air quality management plans in Medellin, Cali, Megalopolis de Mexico and Veracruz.
- Development of regulatory instruments to reduce emissions of particles, VOC and other criteria pollutants as well as greenhouse gases
- Leadership in the implementation of the Breathe Life campaign in Latin America
