What are the organization's current programs, how do they measure success, and who do the programs serve?

Playing on the Spectrum

AFCs signature program, each four-week session serves dozens of children with autism. A core group of enthusiastic clinicians plan and implement structured activities designed to facilitate exercise and motor skills. AFC recruits and trains volunteers who interact directly with the children. The goal is for children to exercise in a safe, appropriate environment where they can make friends, practice social skills and master basic sports skills. Typically runs October-March.

The newest program from Autism Families CONNECTicut, Leisure Explorers is a program for teens to try out something new. Examples include yoga, bocce, tennis, and rhythmic drumming! Leisure Explorers gives children ages 12-18 an opportunity to explore a variety of activities to increase their leisure repertoire and confidence, enhance skills, and experience enjoyment in community programs with their peers.
This program typically runs for an hour on four consecutive Sundays in October-March.

Offered monthly on Friday evening, this program gives teens loads of opportunities to socialize, establish and maintain social connections, and have fun while participating in themed activities such as music, dancing, games, and trivia just to name a few!
