Our programs
What are the organization's current programs, how do they measure success, and who do the programs serve?
Playing on the Spectrum
AFCs signature program, each four-week session serves dozens of children with autism. A core group of enthusiastic clinicians plan and implement structured activities designed to facilitate exercise and motor skills. AFC recruits and trains volunteers who interact directly with the children. The goal is for children to exercise in a safe, appropriate environment where they can make friends, practice social skills and master basic sports skills. Typically runs October-March.
Leisure Explorers
The newest program from Autism Families CONNECTicut, Leisure Explorers is a program for teens to try out something new. Examples include yoga, bocce, tennis, and rhythmic drumming! Leisure Explorers gives children ages 12-18 an opportunity to explore a variety of activities to increase their leisure repertoire and confidence, enhance skills, and experience enjoyment in community programs with their peers.
This program typically runs for an hour on four consecutive Sundays in October-March.
Friday Night Teen Socials
Offered monthly on Friday evening, this program gives teens loads of opportunities to socialize, establish and maintain social connections, and have fun while participating in themed activities such as music, dancing, games, and trivia just to name a few! For ages 13-18. "Teen Night" typically takes place the third Friday of the month.
Young Adult Hangout
AFCs Young Adult Hangouts on Friday evenings is the place to be for young adults on the autism spectrum who are looking for some fun, games, and good laughs! Hangouts are a fun and social evening that include conversation, social activities, and games with friends. We often go out into the community to do a shared activity, such as bowling or pottery painting.
This program typically takes place the first Friday of the month.
