What are the organization's current programs, how do they measure success, and who do the programs serve?

University Health Services, UC Berkeley Bay Area Sex Educators (BASE) Conference

Leaders are better prepared to serve diverse youth with expert consent education training, and we provide it. In tandem with Ms. Robin Sex Goddess, currently in residence at UCB, we are offering a cutting edge program that prepares local teachers, coaches, educators, counselors, and administrators to address the sexual health needs of youth and young adults. This year, our focus is on consent culture education and leadership. Through grant funding, fundraising, and generous community partnerships, we are able to offer scholarships to educators who otherwise could not afford to pay. Our content is cross-cultural, inclusive, evidenced-based, and applicable across a range of curricula including Positive Prevention Plus.

Population(s) Served

This collective group explores how humor, personal narrative, and non-judgmental, risk-reduction approaches can be utilized to open empowering and educational dialogues about sexual health. Beginning with intensive trainings on sex, sexuality, HIV/AIDS, and STIs, this group of Berkeley High small school students write, rehearse, produce, and perform a sexual health educational theater piece aimed at addressing crucial and urgent issues they feel surround sexual health, specifically in Berkeley.

Population(s) Served

In partnership with Sexucation, we are studying college-students’ views and behaviors around sexual consent. Participants submit video clips and still shots about sexual consent to be included in the final video, and also complete a brief demographic survey. The video will be released Spring 2016, along with our survey results. We hope to gain a greater understanding of youth behavior and beliefs around consent, as well as provide a peer-to-peer educational tool for sex educators on college campuses everywhere.

Population(s) Served

Our Parent’s Askable Adult Training Course is a drop-in series of 5 workshops designed to help parents understand normal sexual development and learn practical skills to successfully deal with emergent sexuality in teens.

Population(s) Served

Our That’s Awkward program for teens focuses on healthy relationships, consent, and a risk-reduction approach to sexual health.

Sexual health is both a content area and a skill set. California has recently mandated comprehensive sexual health education in all public schools; once in Middle School or Junior High, and once again in High School. Two instructional days are not enough to prepare children for the sexual health challenges of young adulthood anymore than two instructional days are enough to prepare children for college English. Our program helps fill in the gaps and is a supplement to the comprehensive sexual health curriculum already offered by your school. Interactive pre/post testing ensures teachable moments actually make contact with your teen’s brain, and the integrated use of social media in the classroom keeps them fully engaged in the content. This class helps our youth prepare for a life-time of sexual health.

Goals & Strategy

Charting impact

Four powerful questions that require reflection about what really matters - results.

College campus rape statistics have not changed in 20 years. There is a desperate need to end this public health emergency. Government funds cover only the most basic training, if any, for our youth services providers and covers no training for parents at all. How can we teach kids about consent if the adults don't know how?

We offer training for parents, teachers, counselors, and youth leadership of all kind. Through the generous patronage of individual fee-for-service clients, corporate sponsorship, speaking engagements and grants, we are able to provide scholarship to 20% of our professional students. Teens are never turned away due to finances.
