What is the organization aiming to accomplish?
The Concrete Community Scholarship Fund is a charitable organization whose purpose is to make the dream of college a reality for eligible graduates.
We are a private non-profit corporation recognized by Washington Secretary of State for the public benefit.
Our goal is to ensure that no deserving scholar in our community will be deprived of higher education because of a shortage of funds. A long term goal is to increase the budget for financial scholarship awards to enable the Concrete Community Scholarship Fund to issue multiple new scholarships each year while renewing the current scholarship recipient awards as the students demonstrate commitment and success in their studies -as determined by grades and continuous enrollment in higher education. An additional long term goal is to provide additional money for text books and other university fees (ie lab fees) for our students.
Our Mission
To provide financial assistance to those who have the desire to further their education, have demonstrated their ability to succeed, but lack the necessary financial resources.
What are the organization's key strategies for making this happen?
As a small community scholarship fund, our fundraising efforts are continual to provide for the financial aid commitments determined by our Organizational Bylaws. Since inception, we have made public appearance fundraising at annual town celebrations, seasonal school sporting events and school musical concerts. Fundraising is addressed in media form through interviews and advertisements in the local paper as well as 2 local radio interviews in the last 12 months, social media and website advertising. Our board is committed to providing annual scholarships for high school graduating seniors.
What are the organization's capabilities for doing this?
The Concrete Community Scholarship Fund has a current full board of 5 members committed to attending at least 1 home game for each sport during each season (women's and men's games). We plan to attend each school sponsored seasonal event such as concert or plays for fundraising and informational purposes. A small budget is set aside for newspaper/media advertising and postage. Our rack cards and donation cards, thank you cards are printed in an amount which we believe will support fundraising for 2 years. A budget for accounting, tracking and bank fees are covered for a 2 year budget.
What have they accomplished so far and what's next?
Since inception in July 2016, we have voted in a 5-member Board of Directors, had monthly and annual meetings, Passed Bylaws, received non-profit incorporation, been acknowledged by the state Charities Registry, obtained a WA State Business License and 501(c)(3) non-profit tax-deductible status from the IRS. Our organization has budgeted for "cost of doing business" expenses with a 2 year budget. We are very proud to have collected public donations through public relations, advertising and fundraising events to award a $1000 scholarship to a graduating 2016 senior in our first year of business.
