Mission
St. Teresa of Calcutta said, “The greatest disease in the West today is not TB or leprosy it is being unwanted, unloved and uncared for.” You Are Loved Ministries seeks to change that and show the homeless without discrimination that the love of Jesus is the cure. We will show them the love of Jesus by restoring their sense of self-worth by providing them with temporary housing, helping them locate employment, teaching them how to care for a family and ultimately help them find a home of their own. Sirach 29:21-22 says, “Life’s prime needs are water, bread and clothing, a house too, for decent privacy. Better a poor man’s fare under the shadow of one’s own roof than sumptuous banquets among strangers.” We want to teach the poor and destitute that we can do all things through Christ.

What we aim to solve
According to Homeless Action Network of Detroit there were 14,117 homeless in the City of Detroit alone in 2016. Of those homeless in the city approximately 68% were single adults and 73% of the single adults were men (Annual State of Homelessness). This means that there were roughly 6,979 single men on the streets of Detroit in 2016. As of 2016 approximately 60% of children in the City of Detroit lived in households without a father present and 66% of those households lived under the poverty level compared to 37% of households with both parents present (Data Access).

Manhood Development
The program works to develop the necessary mindset and skills to promote authentic manhood within the homeless population. It is the belief of You Are Loved Ministries that the lack of authentic manhood is one of the greatest causes of manhood. Family households without a male role model present are twice as likely to live in poverty. The program involves life skills training, personal assessment and development, vocational discernment and assistance developing a long-term career. The men are offered the opportunity to live at the ministries facility for up to two years while they develop the necessary skills to be successful men and become financially stable.

What is the organization aiming to accomplish?
You Are Loved Ministries will focus on homeless men with its programs. While other organizations continue to do the essential work of housing the existent homeless women and children YALM will try to slow the number of new homeless women and children by raising up men who will take responsibility for their families and help to reduce the number of fatherless homes.
What are the organization's key strategies for making this happen?
The facility will provide the men with a multi-step program that teaches them necessary life skills. This collaborative approach is essential to empowering the men and developing self-sufficiency in them. The steps will include:
1. Personal/Spiritual Development
2. Vocational Training/Career Development
3. Interpersonal Skills Development
4. Community Involvement
5. Leisure Activities
6. Independent Living Skills
What are the organization's capabilities for doing this?
The organization was founded by Rob Avery who has the practical experience to run the organization in an efficient, cost effective manner while not compromising the services to those they seek to serve. The vision for YALM has been forming in Rob’s mind for nearly 15 years. He has a great desire to lift men out of the challenges of poverty and into a life of sustainable employment and self-sufficiency. Rob has been blessed with great examples of manhood in his life, now he seeks to bring that example to homeless men.
Rob has assembled a Board of Directors that has the necessary experience to help guide the organization. Their experience includes finance, real estate, urban planning, banking, spiritual care as well as experience serving on the boards of other organizations. The Board continues to discern the need for additional members to compliment the skill sets of those currently serving on the board.
What have they accomplished so far and what's next?
You Are Loved Ministries is still in the startup phase. At this point the ministry has fully developed its business plan, established essential relationships to provide essential referral services to provide the men it seeks to serve, and begun the essential task of spreading the word about what the organization seeks to do. YALM is currently working to acquire grants, ramp up fundraising efforts and locate a physical location to operate out of and house the men while it continues to develop essential relationships and partnerships with organizations that will ensure immediate success in it program.
