Mission

The Coalition for Spiritual & Public Leadership is a Chicagoland not-for-profit, multi-racial, multi-ethnic grassroots led coalition that includes parishes, institutions and communities to address racial, social, economic, and environmental injustice by building power that is rooted in the vision of the Gospel of Jesus Christ. CSPL trains and develops faith leaders and their respective congregations and institutions to enter into public life in a manner that is strategic, communal, and grounded in the Catholic spiritual and theological traditions.

What are the organization's current programs, how do they measure success, and who do the programs serve?

Economic Justice

Our focus on economic justice is the foundational pillar of the Coalition for Spiritual and Public Leadership (CSPL) work. In addition to our work to address inequality and poverty through organizing, leadership development, and direct action, we are also focused on building and incubating worker-owned cooperatives with, by, and for workers to create a more inclusive and just economy.

CSPL’s primary areas of focus in the area of Economic Justice are:

Leadership development with, by and for women, people of color, immigrants and other historically marginalized peoples;

Worker cooperative development led by people of color and other historically marginalized peoples;

Community organizing to build power to create an effective ecosystem of grassroots leadership for the sustainability of a more inclusive economy;

Advocacy for policy and systems change that will better support the establishment, integration, and success of worker-owned cooperatives.
