Mission

Preston’s Station Historic District is focused on preserving and revitalizing the District. Working with local communities and non-profit organizations to educate and raise awareness of the historical significance of Preston’s Station, the City of Belle Plaine, Iowa, and the Lincoln Highway, while promoting the area as a tourist destination for all generations to enjoy.

Historical Structure Report

The project will consist of a physical walk through survey, research and review of the District's history; oral histories, including interviews; an existing conditions survey on all elements within the District, including exterior and interior architectural elements, structural systems, mechanical and electrical systems; measured drawings following the Secretary of Interior's Standards and Guidelines for Architectural and Engineering Documents; site documentation to HABS standards; materials investigation and testing (i.e., concrete blocks, building finishes, archaeological, etc.); selection for most appropriate treatment to preserve, restore or reconstruct and development of recommendation for treatment and specific work to be conducted.

The District is locally significant and eligible for the National Register of Historic Places under Criterion A for its association with the history of roadside gas and lodging businesses in Belle Plaine, IA in the early to mid-twentieth century. To move forward for eligibility under Criterion B, further research needs to be completed for the nomination.
