Our programs
What are the organization's current programs, how do they measure success, and who do the programs serve?
From Fire to Flowers Pollinator Garden Program
Our From Fire to Flowers Pollinator Garden program is helping to restore land destroyed by the devastating Almeda Fire of 2020, by planting small native pollinator gardens in urban yards. We work with homeowners, especially those with limited knowledge and/or resources to install their own pollinator garden, in the areas that are being rebuilt. There is no other organization helping to replant gardens, and there is not public funding for this. With our dedicated team, volunteers, and community support, the program is providing education, beauty, and inspiration for people who are rebuilding their lives as well as their homes in the Rouge Valley of Southern Oregon.
Our long-term strategy is to expand capacity to enable us to create more and larger gardens to help realize our goal of increasing, protecting, and stewarding native plants for native pollinators. Also, develop hands-on workshops and professional videos to increase education and outreach into the community.
Pollinator Pals Program
Pollinator Pals program provides place-based lesson plans and hands-on activities to teach and engage children and teens in schools, afterschool programs, in concert with community organizations, and at other venues. Our goal is to increase awareness of why and how to increase, protect, and steward native pollinators, and to encourage people to take action.
Our long-term strategy is to develop lasting collaborations with community educators and local school systems to provide regular programming. Our goal is to create a small education center and native plant garden as a way to provide ongoing direct educational learning opportunities for schools and community groups, along with a small exhibit space for changing displays about native flora and fauna. This space would provide space to other environmental educators for a nominal fee.
Habitat Academy Program
Habitat Academy offers regular and ongoing classes, workshops, field trips and citizen science projects focused on native plants, seeds, gardens, pollinators, and more. Our goal is to increase awareness of why and how to increase, protect, and steward native pollinators, and to encourage people to take action.
Our long-term strategy is to continue to develop lasting collaborations with community educators to provide regular programming to adults to help them create pollinator landscapes. Our goal is to create a small education center and native plant garden as a way to provide ongoing direct educational learning opportunities, along with a small exhibit space for changing displays about native flora and fauna.
Growing Gardens for Pollinators Program
Working primarily with volunteers, we are propagating native plants from seed and division from plants that grow in our demonstration gardens. Our garden and nursery operations serve to educate both the public and volunteers by providing a venue for educational events, videos, tours, classroom activities, and ongoing citizen science projects, such as our periodic pollinator counts.
Our long-term strategy is to expand our propagation nursery facilities to support our goal of increasing both the number and diversity of native plants, and offer year round sales. We are seeking funding for a part-time staff person to allow us to increase our plant propagation efforts, expand our nursery facility, and provide enhanced education and training to the community. Examples include developing a garden tour program, video and photo documentation, and developing a high-school summer employment program.
