Mission

At Environmental and Animal Defense, our mission is to provide the Denver and Colorado Front Range community with legal services for environmental and animal issues, as well as engage in federal litigation. No matter whether they live in homes, on farms, or in the wild, we give a voice to animals through their human counterparts by providing affordable legal representation. We believe all communities have a right to a healthy environment and work to maintain and improve those places that are homes to our communities and our wildlife. We work for a better future for your family, for your community, for your world.

Environmental and Animal Defense ("eaDefense") is a 501(c)(3) public interest law firm that provides legal representation and assistance to low- to moderate-income people focusing on animal and environmental issues. eaDefense aims to assist those low- to moderate-income clients who need legal representation but are neither able to qualify for free legal aid services elsewhere nor able to comfortably afford the standard rates of representation through a firm. Largely an animal-centric organization, eaDefense will take cases that involve domestic and wildlife issues. As to wildlife issues, cases may expand to encompass larger environmental law issues that affect wildlife integrity. As to domestic animal issues, eaDefense will address issues that concern companion animals as well as livestock. In the area of criminal defense, eaDefense will take on cases that involve dangerous or vicious dog designations and issues concerning breed-restriction. In the civil arena, eaDefense will address custody disputes, both between married and unmarried parties, landlord/tenant disputes, homeowners association disputes, acts for replevin, discriminatory actions against people with service animals, and product liability issues. As to transactional matters, eaDefense will offe

eaDefense has exceptionally low administrative costs and knowledgeable staff attorneys to implement the mission and vision of the organization. We are building a network of other attorneys to volunteer time in other U.S. jurisdictions, and are building a network between other nonprofits who need legal assistance. Additionally, the revenue structure of eaDefense allows for representation of people and issues that larger organizations, or those with political limitations must avoid.

We have partnered with national nonprofit organizations to bring litigation concerning wildlife and government transparency, started a program of governmental transparency on the recovery planning of endangered species, and have worked to protect a plethora of companion animals in the state of Colorado, preventing unwarranted euthanasia, and ensuring animals are in the custody of knowledgeable and caring guardians.
