What we aim to solve
Our programs
What are the organization's current programs, how do they measure success, and who do the programs serve?
Father's FUN FEST
Our annual free community festival, held every Father's Day weekend. A collaberation with local motor sports hero, Robby Gordon, local small businesses, community hero's from the local police departments & fire departments as well as local car club enthusiast, complete with live music & free food for all.
Always free and open to the community, a chance we attempt to provide the community fathers to bring their kids out and enjoy a festival aimed at honoring them, having educational opportunities and things that hopefully encourage them along the way.
Family & Friends Ride- DONUT LOOP
A variety of planned rides spread through various areas/target groups that incorporate a family friendly bicycle ride along local greenway's and park systems.
Aimed at encouraging togetherness, physical activity and mental refreshing. We provide basic bicycle safety & ride recommendations to the attendee's to hopefully encourage to take it upon themselves to get outside!
We aim to provide light refreshments and/or swag at each event.
Rad Little Rodeo- our traveling bicycle skills course & bike education zone
Tasked with providing area youth our unique & locally known traveling bike rodeo for all. Complete with ramps, bridges, log crawls, rollers, cone confusion & even a bubble machine. Be it a race course scenario, skills clinic or community engaging opportunity, we'll bring the rad!
We have assisted at various Park & Rec. Departments local programs, local Law Enforcement & Housing Services for local entities Community Engagement programs, Loaves & Fishes of Charlotte as well as the local Trips For Kids-Charlotte Chapter. Lastly, hosting bicycle kids races that are free to local youth ages 2-6 for a part of a Fall & Spring Race Series held in various towns.
Pages & Pedals Tour
A new collaborative effort still in the planning phase, in which we hope to collect both new, gently used bicycles & books. Both tools to take the mind or body on epic adventures.
Looking to the summer of 2018, as local youth begin to leave for the summer, many are stuck at home with nothing to do, be it exercise the brain or body. Well, let's get them some a proper bike or good book to entertain, educate & propel them to the next chapters of their lives.
We aim to partner with another local charity, Promising Pages and local bike clubs and breweries to kick of a "collection tour" and finalize a group of programs in which to distribute them.
Out & About!
A series of events, that are non bicycle related, that take interested area Dads, Moms, Friends & communities along with their youth on local hiking adventures to North Carolina state parks, or must see destinations.
Our inaugural one to Crowders Mountain was a success with over five area fathers and 6 kids, complete with a picnic lunch. Memories made, calories burnt & smiles complete, as well as a few blistered feet!
The aim to encourage fathers to join in on new adventures some might of never known that's provided in their own state. Hoping to have a van in transport to provide an opportunity for those with no transportation or those ere in traveling out of their comfort zones.

Charting impact
Four powerful questions that require reflection about what really matters - results.
What is the organization aiming to accomplish?
We were founded with hopes to encourage area fathers to be more involved in the lives of their children. While our “adventures" are geared towards the positive aspect of the bicycle, it's not the only way we hope to connect.
While we know, not all children have a dad or access to positive male role models in their lives, Bikin' Dads Adventures hopes to be able to provide a core group of volunteers who expressed the same passion towards empowering today's youth through the various positive effects of having that father figure in their lives throughout our activities. Our Goals are to: Lead by Example
An active life leads to a happy and healthy life
Provide life connections, mentoring and friendships
Build stronger relationships one adventure at a time
We also provide skills clinics, personal coaching and various community engagement opportunities such as our traveling bicycle rodeos for all levels and communities around them.
Our program has grown both physically as well as extended its reach across the region over the years. Assisting, directing, creating and participating in outdoor adventures such as youth development and racing programs, bicycle safety clinics and group educational activities outside of bicycles as well.
What are the organization's key strategies for making this happen?
Partnerships, Faith, Volunteers, Fundraising, Projections of Concepts to Blossom, TEAM WORK! -Marketing via Social Media platforms, word of mouth, Email, sponsoring opportunities be it paperwork, website, social media, logo placement on banners or our hopeful to be obtained, Bikin' Dads Adventures van!
What are the organization's capabilities for doing this?
Striving to complete each of our own events safely and yet with the goal to make that lasting impression of positiveness. Partnering with other community programs and assisting them, in efforts to complete the overall mission statement, "Build stronger relationships one adventure at a time".
What have they accomplished so far and what's next?
As far as 2017, a total 31 events in which we either hosted, assisted, directed during the physical 2017 year. Counties covered, consisted of Mecklenburg, Gaston & the Cabarrus region. Assisting local law enforcement groups, Parks & Rec. Department programs, local race directors in the MTB scene(C.Y.C.L.) and providing physical support for other nonprofits such as Loaves & Fishes, Trips for Kids & Charlotte's Building A Better Block- for Belmont & Historic West End communities and of course OPEN Streets 704!
Highlights- (our favorites)
Daddy & Daughter Date Night at Chic Fil A, over 20 area Dads & Daughters new or affiliated with our program attended at location in Concord, NC.
Assisting Good Shepherd Church in south Charlotte at their Family Fun Fair, teaching bicycle safety, showcasing portions of our program to include the traveling rodeo.
Our Friends & Family Ride, a regular installment of greenway riding events in Charlotte & Concord, showcasing bits of history in the region, such as Charlotte's Vietnam Memorial wall and the sights along the way.
Being invited 2 years in a row to National Night Out by the Gaston County Sheriff's Department. Hosting bicycle safety topics & teaching the importance of same.
Hosting the free kids races for ages 2-6 at both the Fall & Spring Charlotte Youth Cycling Leagues races, bringing smiles for miles….or in this case a few laps on our traveling rodeo!
Our Freedom Ride & Clue Hunt, organized-led bicycle clue hunt along the Clark Creek Greenway, a first for us & many. Overall 12 family-friends rode over 14 miles as young as 5 along the region, stopping for clues, completing task & ending with ice cream!
Tasked by the Town of Davidson Parks & Rec. to assist at their ribbon cutting of new greenway, in which we assisted in the group ride, brief bicycle safety clinics, then hosted our bicycle rodeo for the youth that attended the festival like event.
Interbike Fall Cyclo Fest- 2nd year in which the national program reached out to our program to host our bicycle skills course/rodeo, as well as covering the $5k price tag requested by the USNWC. Two days we reached over 149 kids from over 5 area states and met many other interested parents from our own area that had no idea of the program.
Lastly, while not a priority per say, a portion of the Bikin' Dads Adventures crew Dads & Kids alike participated in local & regional MTB race series, one being the Winter Short Track & out of 65 teams, placed 4th in points. Bringing the sense of accomplishment, awareness to our program & yet building stronger bonds between the Dads and their kids that raced, be it on the sideline or the starting line. We are more than bikes, though bike stuff just makes it more rad!

Equity strategies
Last updated: 11/11/2019GuideStar partnered with Equity in the Center - an organization that works to shift mindsets, practices, and systems to increase racial equity - to create this section. Learn more
- We review compensation data across the organization (and by staff levels) to identify disparities by race.
- We ask team members to identify racial disparities in their programs and / or portfolios.
- We employ non-traditional ways of gathering feedback on programs and trainings, which may include interviews, roundtables, and external reviews with/by community stakeholders.
- We have long-term strategic plans and measurable goals for creating a culture such that one’s race identity has no influence on how they fare within the organization.
- We seek individuals from various race backgrounds for board and executive director/CEO positions within our organization.
- We have community representation at the board level, either on the board itself or through a community advisory board.
- We measure and then disaggregate job satisfaction and retention data by race, function, level, and/or team.
- We engage everyone, from the board to staff levels of the organization, in race equity work and ensure that individuals understand their roles in creating culture such that one’s race identity has no influence on how they fare within the organization.
