Agile for Patriots
Programs and results
What we aim to solve
Agile for Patriots provides Agile and Scrum training for Patriots (military veterans and their spouses) who display the aptitude and attitude for software development. Participants learn theory and acquire hands-on experience.
Passing the scrum.org Professional Scrum Master I (PSM I) assessment is not a graduation requirement, but is highly encouraged as validation of the knowledge and experience gained during the program.
This program enhances the ability for a Patriot to find meaningful employment within the software development area of a company.

Charting impact
Four powerful questions that require reflection about what really matters - results.
What is the organization aiming to accomplish?
Agile for Patriots aims to enhance the ability for a veteran to find meaningful employment within the software development area of a company by serving in the role of a Scrum Master (the team role responsible for ensuring the team lives agile values and principles and follows the processes and practices that the team agreed they would use).
There is no charge to the student for any of the services we provide (training, certification, or mentoring).
What are the organization's key strategies for making this happen?
We prepare Patriots for Agile careers through focused training, practical experience, professional certification, and employment referral.
We search out employers that are interested in supporting our Patriots and work with them to see how best they can assist.
We work with mentors that want to help our Patriots build a rewarding and fulfilling career in the high-tech industry.
And we work with other military focused non-profits to spread the word on our program. Allis in Service works with us and provides the validation that each student is an honorably discharged veteran.
What are the organization's capabilities for doing this?
We have partnered with the following organizations in order to provide our services at no cost to the students:
Improving - providing space within their businesses for us to conduct our classes
SmoothApps - providing the instructors, guest lectures, and employers that allow the program to take place.
What have they accomplished so far and what's next?
Since its inception in 2017, Agile for Patriots has completed 6 classes and graduated 36 Scrum Masters! We're on track to offer our next class in August of 2018. Our process is to provide a one-day orientation course where potential students decide if this program is for them. Those that move forward are then provided a 2-day course in Professional Scrum Foundations and are then eligible to take the Scrum.org Professional Scrum Master I certification exam. We complete the program by holding a 2-week practicum where the students are able to demonstrate competency with their skills.
